The doctors recommend 18 months, due to the weight

loss happening during that time.

Some people (accidently or not) get pregnant much

sooner. I think that with careful monitoring and

follow-up, things usually turn out well for both

mother and child.

Did your wife have any complications? Any other

medical conditions that need to be addressed?

the drs recommend 12-18 months recovery time before getting pregnant. your wife

is loosing a lot of weight fast and relearning to live her life and how to feed

herself, let alone feed a growing body in her. i was 8 weeks post op when i got

pregnant and it's been a hard road!

How long do you have to wait until you can become pregnant after

having the gastric bypass surgery? When I met my wife she became

pregnant when she was losing weight. That was 10 years ago. Now she

has had the gastric bypass surgery and I was wondering how long

should we wait until we start trying...thank you.

Some doctors only recommend a year -- mine did that. It depends on a variety of

factors but the average is 18 months.

Thank You for everyone's response!!! My wife had her surgery end of

August and has lost around 48lbs. She hasn't had any side effects or

was in bad health at the time of her surgery. ( I am in worse medical

shape than her.) She was very lucky on that point. She is 4ft. 11 and

was around 270lbs. She lost a baby 5 years ago. She only had problems

arise when she conceived. ( high blood pressure) Ms. Carol Sly I have

to respond to you living in Alaska.....I live in ton, S.C. and

I joke and say that I am going to leave everything and everyone and

move to Alaska and find me a big hairy warm woman or Bear to keep me

Most surgeons tell their patients to wait for 12 to 18 months after

surgery. The reason for this is because our bodies are enduring so

much change with the rapid weight loss. They would prefer that we

have lost our weight and were at goal when trying to conceive.

Myself, like many others conceived early. I have had a very normal

pregnancy and am expecting a little boy here in a few more weeks. If

I had to do over I would wait. It is not only hard on the body but

also on the mind. We go through so much with the changes that WLS

allows us. Good Luck when you guys decided it is time. Keep in touch
