After to my trip to the Er my surgeon ordered bw. My question is on

the paper it says requires a 12 hr fasting. There is no way I could

go that long w/out eating or would. I asked at the surgeons

office reminding them I'm pregnant and she didn't know and haven't

heard back from OBGyn. Does eating alter the results. I know you

fast for bw post op. Just curious.

All you have to do is make your appt for the blood draw first thing in the

morning. Don't eat after 8 pm go to sleep and first thing in the morning go for

the blood work. Just pack your self a lite breakfast to eat after the blood

is drawn. I am really surprised the doc office didnt tell you that.

definitely affects the results, that is why they say FASTING and make

certain you are fasting because it's a waste of time, energy, effort

and money if you aren't fasting. If you go to bed at midnight then

get up early for your lab draw, that's 8 hrs down, right there.

I think some say sips of water are ok, but for a fasting blood sugar

(which is ESSENTIAL and can cause miscarriages/extremely difficult

pregnancy/fetal malformations/placental defects for you if you

develop gestational diabetes, you MUST be fasting.)

I dont know what lab work it is, but also ask if they consider 8

hours with nothing to eat fasting (our hospital does).

But there is no use to have the testing done if you haven't fasted.

can eat up until midnight (or it's been this way for the past 16

years I've been nursing, but I suppose all hospitals are different in

their policies and procedures.

:)

I think not having anything to eat or drink for 8 hours

constitutes " fasting " maybe this is why you are thinking this?

Try going first thing in the morning and bring something with you? I've done the

12 hour fast... it stinks but can be done! Hopefully they are running on time..

if you get there first thing they should be.
