Guest guest
Hello, I have been a silent member of this group for some 10 months now - and have received a ton of useful information during that time. I had gastric bypass surgery 3 1/2 years ago and successfully lost 140 pounds (size 20 to size 4)... I am happy to report that on October 4, 2004, I gave birth to a healthy 7lb, 1oz baby boy via c-section. My total weight gain was 31 pounds and now 5 weeks after delivery I have lost all but 4-5 pounds of that. My pregnancy was fairly uneventful until the 8th month when I was diagnosed with polihydramnios - too much amniotic fluid. My uterus was so full of fluid that it tried several times to go into labor early....which my Doctor was able to stop....but I still had to spend several weeks on 'limited activity'. At 37 weeks, I was put in the hospital for scheduled induction - the doctor didn't want my water to break on it's own for fear of cord prolapse. My labor was going great...I was 3 cm when my water was broken (huge flood) and 4 cm when I got my epidural. I felt absolutely no pain. At 7 cm the doctor discovered that my son was descending with his hand on top of his head! She tried and tried to move his hand to the side - but my stubborn little child refused to budge....so I ended up with a c-section. The upside was that he was born with a perfectly shaped head and I got my tubes tied at the same time! (This is a good thing because not only do I have two older sons - ages 6 & 7 - but I also have two full-time step children - also ages 6 & 7 - and now we have a 5 week old! - Needless to say, the Expedition is full to capacity...) The important thing is that my baby boy, Sam, has arrived healthy and strong. My family and I are truly blessed. Like many of you, I was quite concerned at the beginning of this pregnancy of any impact my bypass surgery would have on the well-being of my unborn child. I hope that my experience will give some of you hope and peace of mind. All of my best, Hilary Bazan Husband - Arturo Children - Preston - 7years Mercedes - 7years AJ - 6 years Will - 6 years Sam - 5 weeks

There are quite a few of us here that have very normal pregnancies and deliveries from what I have learned on this site. The surgery that we had will not typically affect a pregnancy. Thanks for sharing. ~Hugs~ Shalonda > > > >
