Ah.... I believe it is called " Relaxin " a chemical produced during

pregnancy..... allows for your stomach to hold more.

Your about 28 to 30 weeks?? Your kiddo is starting to put on some weight..

and at this time you also may be retaining more water...

I gained 4 lbs in 2 weeks... and then 2 weeks later lost 5 lbs...

I am 37 weeks... preggers 10 weeks post op.

I have *only* lost during this pregnancy about 25 lbs... but my body shrunk..

You won't gain back those 70 lbs... trust me.

As for the junk food.... I eat it too...

But.. if I stop and look and HOW much I eat... and then compare it to PRE

Wls... it can't compare.

I know mentally the weight gain issue is a hard one to swallow... there are

quite a few of us in the same place.

I readily admit I will eat a Micky D's Double Cheeseburger 1x or 2x a

week...... you know.. the 99 cent menu.

HI,

Please don't beat yourself up over this. Just keep doing as you

are -- focus on the healthy food that you and baby need. As far as

amounts, I, too, can eat normal portions often. Like yes, a whole

sandwich. My surgeon admitted to me that after he had done my

surgery, he started making the pouches a lot smaller.

Best of luck to you!

I got pg just about 6 weeks after RNY. I had lost about 80 lbs.

between March and Oct. Well at my last OB visit I had gained 10 lbs

back!!!! That was in just 4 weeks. How could I have gained 10 lbs???

I thought for sure that I would continue to lose throughout the whole

pg. Has anyone gained that much weight in 4 weeks before?? I have

tried to cut out all of the unhealthy junk that I have been eating

without trying to diet. Hopefully that will prevent me from gaining

the other 70 lbs back before I deliver in Jan.

My other concern is in the amount of food that I can eat. My surgeon

kind of wrote it off as " it's because I am pg. " I know that I am no

WLS surgeon, but how can that be so? I can see my appetite

increasing, but how can the amount I can eat increase?? I'll give you

guys an example of what I can eat and please be honest and tell me

what you think. A couple of weeks ago I ate a whole burrito supreme

from Taco Bell and it wasn't a skimpy one. I can eat a whole sandwich

also. Maybe a few bites of something to go with it. Sometimes I do

overdo it and feel sick, but most of the time I do not get

uncomfortable.

Hi ,

by your due date I am guesstimating that you are around 29 weeks? At

this point (I was told this at 26 wks by my OB) the baby is gaining

3-5 ounces of weight just for his own body, and you gain an equal

amount of fluid and tissue that has nothing to do with your permament

bdy weight so that is as much as almost a lb a week that has nothing

to do with food you eat at all. For a lot fof us who gained little or

even lost in 1st and 2nd trimesters, the third will have us showing a

gain.

I know it is VERY hard to wrap your mind around the fact the numbers

on the scale going up can be GOOD but in this case they are. it is a

temporary situation. If you were babysitting and picked up an 8lb

baby in a 7 lb carrier and accidentally stepped on a scale would you

berate yourself for seeing a higher number? of course not, that's

just silly, but that is what we are doing now. WE ARE the baby

carrier until January (I am due Jan 23rd).

Also one other theory (and I am just guessing here because I noticed

the exact same phenomenon of being able to eat a LOT more than I ever

could before I was pregnant post-op. One of the reasons we feel full

is due a chemical you stomach lining signals to send to your brain. I

think it is called grehlin. It tells your brain to stop eating and it

is the reason they use a particular portion of the stomach to make

your new pouch, they choose the side that sends out that chemical I

think. When we are pregnant perhaps the chemical isn't sent out as

much or the brain responds to it differently so mother nature can make

sure we can eat enough to feed the baby in spite of morning sickness,

lessened mobility (to hunt/gather food) etc... I know I was 11 months

post-op and could barely eat 1/2 slice of thin bread before I'd be

full for hours. Around 8 weeks the morning sickness would only be

pacified by about 12 saltines (and I wouldn't ffeel full) or 1-3

pieces of cinnamon bread. Yeah 3 slices!!! Since week 15 or so when

they told me to get out of ketosis and stop losing weight NOW (babies

cannot handle the ketones of burned fat and they pass straight thru

the placenta to the baby) ever since then I was ordered to up my carbs

and eat a higher carbs to protein ratio. I eat easily 5 pieces of

toast a day. I will go back to my normal no bread routine after

is born but until he is I (and you!) need to eat what the baby

wants and what keeps you feeling okay. If you start gaining too much

the docs will look into to make sure you aren't becoming diabetic or

something, but at your stage of pregnancy more gain is certainly

normal even for a post-op.

Hope this info helps!!!
