Sounds like PANDAS..... http://www.pandasnetwork.org/ or http://www.pandasresourcenetwork.org/ You need to have him tested for myco plasma pneumonia, strep and lyme. Get the doctor to do a trial of azithromycin. Frequent urination is very common in PANDAS To: mb12valtrex Sent: Sunday, October 21, 2012 12:31 PM Subject: Any experience with urine issues?

My ds is 7, has asd, and has a chronic history with yeast and bacteria overgrowth. For several years he was getting a high dose of vsl3, which seemed to keep things at bay. Unfortunately, the cost became too much so we took my ds to see a gastroenterologist who just put him on miralax to keep him regulare. The miralax just caused diarrhea, so we've been playing with the dosage to try and find a dose that works for him. Last week he began peeing his pants at school. I thought it was behavioral, since he has been known to wet himself when he's not getting his way. He didn't have any accidents at home last weekend, but then monday at school had 6 or 7. Last Monday night he began complaining of a boo boo in the area of his groin, but really wasn't being specific. He's not verbal enough to say anything but boo boo.

I took him to the pedi on Tuesday who ran a culture and sent him for a U/S of his kidneys. The dip stick showed a little blood at the office, but the culture that came back from the lab shows no blood and no infection. He continues to only pee little squirts at a time, and is constantly wetting himself just a little bit at a time. He's going constantly. Friday the pedi sent him for another u/s of his appendix and testicles to make sure all was well there, and that was also normal.

Last night he became very urgent to go pee and was pulling my hand toward him. I noticed a small brown color coming from him, so I took a tissue and dabbed him. What looked like a small black thread, with a knot in it came out. I thought it was a string from his underwear. I'm pretty sure it came out of him, but I can't say for sure. Today he's still peeing very frequently only a tiny bit at a time. He's eating and drinking fine, has no fever, and is playing as usual. I can tell he's very sensitive on his tip, but then again he's been poked and prodded all week and could just have had enough of anyone touching him there.

I'm curious if anyone knows if this sounds like a parasite, and if so where do I go from here. I'm thinking if it was string inside of him for over a week wouldn't it take a few days for the irritation to go away? What else could this be. The dr says if it was yeast it would have shown up in a culture. Is that true? Would a parasite show up?

Any advice?

Cassie, You generally see some initial improvement on the azithro within a few days........less urination, less OCD, less anxiety, better mood. Azithro stays in the body for up to 10 days so usually the kids do not fall apart right away when the azithro is stopped but generallyu a week to 10 days later. For most PANDAS kids they have to stay on the antibiotics for several weeks, months or years until the immune system is reset. Hi ,Do you know if Bacillan injections can do the same thing as the zithromax? Our biomed dr. just came back from a conference where PANDAS/PANS etc was discussed and she is recommending Bacillan shots during acute phase every 2 weeks and then monthly for strep/PANDAS/PANS. What are your thoughts on this? One reason we are going this route is because the oral antibs usually make my kids worse but we haven't tried azithromax yet. Many thanks for your thoughts.Subject: Re: Any experience with urine

, For some kids the bicillin shots do work and they would bypass the gut. For others either augemntin or azithro work but you would have to use an antifungal like diflucan to help with yeast. To: mb12valtrex Sent: Sunday, October 21, 2012 5:55 PM Subject: Re: Any experience with urine issues?

Thank you . My son is already on a systemic antifungal but even the shots seem to be throwing his gut off. He has also dealt with clostridia in the past so this is a concern too with the antibs. Clostridia has gotten pretty ugly over here in the past. I am hoping that IVIG or some other immune treatment will help him fight these chronic bugs that plague him. He was just up last night unable to sleep because his tummy was hurting and the OCD doesn't seem so good now either. Pretty frustrating. Many thanks for you advice! From: Fund

The only thing about the Bicillin shots is they hurt- it is a longer needle-

I am on them 2x a week for Lyme-

while it is a beautiful thing to bypass the gut,

I know my 7 yr. old would have freaked out.

overgrowth. For several years he was getting a high dose of vsl3, which seemed

to keep things at bay. Unfortunately, the cost became too much so we took my ds

to see a gastroenterologist who just put him on miralax to keep him regulare.

The miralax just caused diarrhea, so we've been playing with the dosage to try

and find a dose that works for him. Last week he began peeing his pants at

school. I thought it was behavioral, since he has been known to wet himself when

he's not getting his way. He didn't have any accidents at home last weekend, but

then monday at school had 6 or 7. Last Monday night he began complaining of a

boo boo in the area of his groin, but really wasn't being specific. He's not

verbal enough to say anything but boo boo. I took him to the pedi on Tuesday

who ran a culture and sent him for a U/S of his kidneys. The dip stick showed a

little blood at the office,

infection. He continues to only pee little squirts at a time, and is constantly

wetting himself just a little bit at a time. He's going constantly. Friday the

pedi sent him for another u/s of his appendix and testicles to make sure all was

well there, and that was also normal. Last night he became very urgent to go

pee and was pulling my hand toward him. I noticed a small brown color coming

from him, so I took a tissue and dabbed him. What looked like a small black

thread, with a knot in it came out. I thought it was a string from his

underwear. I'm pretty sure it came out of him, but I can't say for sure. Today

he's still peeing very frequently only a tiny bit at a time. He's eating and

drinking fine, has no fever, and is playing as usual. I can tell he's very

sensitive on his tip, but then again he's been poked and prodded all week and

could just have had enough of anyone touching

so where do I go from here. I'm thinking if it was string inside of him for over

a week wouldn't it take a few days for the irritation to go away? What else

could this be. The dr says if it was yeast it would have shown up in a culture.

Is that true? Would a parasite show up? Any advice?
