Guest guest
Hi everyone, First I wanted to thank everyone who helped me decide the best approach for my kid in dealing with viruses. Finally, we are starting valtrex. My dan has prescribed 500 mg twice a day but because of half life issue, he suggested using 250 mg 4 times a day. This is what we will be using in the beginning and at some point will increase to 500 mg three times a day. My son is already on diflucan and vancomycin, 2 weeks on and 1 week off. When I start valtrex, do I need to use diflucan every day? We have needed vancomycin with diflucan otherwise my son gets worsening ocd and neuropathy like symptoms along with agitation and tantrums. What would be the best approach? Is it ok to continue the same routine with diflucan/vanco and use valtrex daily. But this way there will be valtrex alone on board for a week every couple of weeks. Is this gonna flare his yeast? Also, I am using transdermal NAC for his liver. Is there anything else that I can use as a remedy to strengthen his detox and help calm his system. My son is very sensitive to all treatments, both naturals and prescription. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks is

Guest guest
You can just start the Valtrex if he's already on it diflucan. Make sure you know what's yeasty behavior, though, if you can.I would recommend starting at half dose for a week and then going up to full dose after that. It helps ease into the die off. I'm not a doctor though so talk to your doc. ~ Antiviral Therapy 101~~ Make a biomed book ~~ gryffinstail.wordpress.com ~~ @Gryffins_Tail ~ Seems like my message got lost and I did'nt get any response. Guest guest
It seems like I did half the dose, he had one or 2 rashes. Then I moved to full dose 3 weeks later. My son seemed to change for the better the 3rd. day on it.Did great for 6months then started slowly becoming sensitive to it during the last year. The Dr. used amphotericin B instead of diflucan. My son never tolerated diflucan at all. It was never the complete answer though. Good luck is. Tammy F. Seems like my message got lost and I did'nt get any response. Guest guest
Thanks Cheryl and Tammy. I am starting valtrex this weekend. He was supposed to be off diflucan and vanco this week but I am leaning towards continuing some antifungal as he is still yeasty. When you say half the dose, do you mean the frequency or the milligrams. The prescription for my son is for 250 mg 4xdaily. Should I start with twice a day and then gradually build up? I personally would prefer a dose of 500 mg as my son is 72 lbs. But my dan said that initially 500 mg three times daily would be too much for him to handle. Let me know what you think of my son's prescription.
