Guest guest
Screw the nurses. I would go straight to the doc and tell them you ARE NOT taking the 3 hour. They can not do anything but mark it in your file that you refused. You think they would want to make this as easy as possible for you the pregnant one. I am kinda lucky. There are 5 docs that I have to see during the prgnancy, and the first one made me aliitle mad, but it only got better from there. She said that I would have to take the test, but the next month I talked to a different doc and they marked in my file that we would just do some fasting blood test. I think they do that at 28 and I am only 20 weeks. Good luck, and hold your ground. Guest guest
Was this a fasting or GTT? If fasting you might have Gestational diabetes and should go for the three hour. Better safe than sorry. Ferguson Rasley mailto:dferguson@... 1HR HIGH: Now they want a 3HR!!! Man...I tried explaining that the one-hour gluclose screening wasn't going to be a breeze but the doc's 'girls' didn't believe me. I didn't get too sick, just a little queezy, but nonetheless...it came back extremely high. (I'm usually hypoglycemic so I knew it was going to be blown off the charts) Anyhow, argued with the nurses today over the phone...tried telling them there was no way in hell that I was going to take the 3hr test and that there were other options and they won't listen to me. What did others do in this situation? Am I wrong about taking the one-hour and expecting it to be high? Or does that REALLY mean that I've got Gestational Diabetes? Guest guest
I had gestational diabetes with 2 of my 3 children, that was before my gastric bypass. I had the one hour that you spoke of and I tolerated pretty well, like you said a little queasy. Anyway, it came back a bit high at 144 so they said I had to do the 3 hour. I really didnt think much of it because the 1 hour was not too bad. Well, I thought I might DIE in the first hour or so after drinking it, I felt SO sick. The next hour was not too bad, but I still felt pretty bad. In the next hour I started feeling VERY shaky, sweaty, weak. Turns out that the first number was 210. The second number was like 68 and the last was 56! The sugar hit my system so fast it caused and unusually high amount of insulin in response and wiped out my glucose levels. I could have passed out it turns out. I did the 2 hour post prandial(after eating) and everything was fine, my sugars are in the 70's. Push for that test. Good luck, Gerri > Man...I tried explaining that the one-hour gluclose screening wasn't > going to be a breeze but the doc's 'girls' didn't believe me. > I didn't get too sick, just a little queezy, but nonetheless...it > came back extremely high.
