Guest guest
What is a " Portion " ?? While I can eat more now pg then I did pre preg... ( then again I got pg 10 weeks post op) I had never really sat down an looked at what a " Portion " or " Serving " really was... I find it amazing how much in general we as a society really " over eats " .... Take a " bagel shop " bagel with cream cheese. That is the equivilent of 3 servings of both bread and cream cheese.... yet that is a standard breakfast option. Cereal... most cereals are portioned to about 3/4 a cup... Even POST surgery... 3/4 cup of some cereals still leaves even ME hungry. Dr Phil was talking about overweight kids... and helping them to be more " food concious " . In other words... let the older ones help with meal planning and preparation... come up with ideas to make healthier an old family favorite.... and let them SERVE the meal... using the Correct portion size. I love making Chili using ground chicken or turkey... and use the diced tomatoes... add in lots of green peppers.... Now.. lots of kids won't eat the beans.... but they will eat the Chili if they think it is all " meat " . ( my dh is the same way) I always put the beans in the blender before dumping in the pot... To this day my husband thinks I make " chili " without the beans... LOL Ya know.. I still love to eat.. surgery hasn't fixed that... the only thing it did was MAKE me stop over eating. I don't think in my head I will ever be 'fixed'.. and will always love food. It is a sad admission... but it is the truth. So.. if I am an adult with eating issues who can't control the amount of food I take in without surgery.... my heart goes out to the overweight kids... how are they supposed to control something an adult has a hard time controlling...??? Someone mentioned the school selling icecream 4 days a week... Why can't they offer a fruit cup instead? These are educators.... who should be helping teach good food choices along with everything else. Just my not so humble opinions..
