Hi Tammy,

My name is Jeanne and I am new as well. This is actually my first e-mail. I

had gastric bypass in August of last year and had a miscarriage July 1 of

this year. I am now 7 weeks pregnant and am excited and nervous at the same

time. I showed my doctor several ingredients of vitamins and he said he

recommended the Vista vitamins that are made specifically for our situation.

They have

a better absorption in comparison to a regular vitamin. I still don't take

capsules well, so I take the chewable. The vitamins even have the folic acid

which is so critical in the first trimester. These vitamins don't have any

artificial sweetener which is great.

I hope that helps. Talk to you doc and see what he/she says.

Jeanne

Hi Tammy. My Doctor simpply takes my blood every 2 months. I am in my last

trimester and have had good blood results throughout pregnancy. I am 2

years post. He has me take a prenatal ontop of my rregular multi and I try to

eat alot of protein. I have gained a normal amount and everything is good.

WLS patients can have perfectly normal pregnancies. No worries.

Tammy,

Welcome to the group! Glad that you can join us. Always feel free to ask

questions, tell us your opinion or post your good news.

As far as your answer on the vitamins....I was told by OB doctor that

just taking a prenatal vitamin along with the B-12 shots, pill or liquid is

perfect during pregnancy.

Tammy -

Congratulations on your pregnancy, and also your weight loss!

In addition to the " regular " vitamins, I also take folic acid to

help prevent spinabifida. (I have spinabifida occulta, and there

are varying opinions on whether I'm at a higher risk for having a

child with neural tube defects or not). My family doctor and OB

both suggested the folic acid just in case.

Also, I'd make sure that your OB understands your concerns, and

tests your blood regularly for deficiencies. I wouldn't just

automatically take twice the vitamins -- I believe that there are

some (like IRON) that you can get too much of.

Best wishes -- I will think good thoughts for you.

Hi Tammy!

No dont take twice the vitamins unless the doctor tells you too... vitamins

can be toxic in high doses and will not only hurt the baby but you. Let the

doctor do some blood tests to see if you are low in anything before taking

things into your own hands. Best wishes to you and congratulations!
