Guest guest
my dr did a 2 hour fasting test...I ate a normal breakfast and 2 hours from the end of my meal they drew blood. my dr said the results are just as good as with the Glucose test...more so because it will do no good if you throw it all up. Guest guest
you can refuse any procedure you want...you don not have to take the glucose test nad most GB patients do have problems with it. ask for the two hour test instead. aka mom2ben99 (jennilee75@...) Guest guest
Ask for an HbA1C (Hemoglobin A-One-C) test. It is a blood test given to diabetics to track their blood sugars over the past 12 weeks. Or simply refuse the test. You are the patient. They will probably make you sign something releasing them from any liability so you can't sue if something happens to you or the baby and it turns out that you really have diabetes in one form or the other and the baby or you suffers for it as a result and you refused the test, but you can refuse any procedure you are not comfortable with taking. All the best, Herlean --- Koopmans wrote: > you can refuse any procedure you want...you don not > have to take the glucose test nad most GB patients > do have problems with it. ask for the two hour test > instead. > > aka mom2ben99 (jennilee75@...) > Kay Independent Beauty Consultant > http://www.marykay.com/koopmans > > Gastric Bypass-Lap RNY 3/12/04-Dr Dunshee in Topeka > Ks. > Baby boy due 2/17/05-Shanndon > original wt. 342/current wt. 206/goal wt. 140 > DR Is Telling me I *HAVE > TO GET GLUCOSE TEST* > > > > > > My doc told me today either I get a glucose test > or else they > automatically put me on the gestational diabetes > tract.... which > involves multiple times daily finger pricking, > special diet etc... > > She also says they have NOT had anyone have > problems with the > glucose test. Guest guest
you need to tell your OB to get with the *post gastric bypass pregnancy " routine, read that most get sick if they drink all 60grams of sugar, and no matter what the results, they are invalid b/c you have had the surgery. Tell her there are other options such as the jelly bean test, or a fasting BS then go eat, come back in 2 hours and check it again. She CANNOT force it on you. That is assault/battery. She may put you on the gestational tract, but all that means is you check your sugar 4 (or one *wink*) times a day and make the other 3 up, but she CANNOT make you take the test. A good majority of our " so called gestational diabetics " are diet cotrolled. No insulin shots are required. Your OB is a nut and needs to call your gastric bypass surgeon to come toward a workable arrangement. otherwise.........find another OB. JMO, Sheila L & D RN > > She also says they have NOT had anyone have problems with the > glucose test. <<<--- has she has any other gastric bypass patients before>??? You need to inform her that its all dependent on the amount of intestine that is bypassed. Some can tolerate sweets more than others, but you are refusing the test. SHE CANNOT MAKE YOU TAKE THE TEST!!!!!!!!!!!! Sheila RN

Guest guest
I have only dumped twice in the five years post-op....so I TRIED the three hour glucose test and not only did I GET SICK, but the results came back skyhigh and inconclusive. My OB decided on the blood draw for the AC1 test, testing my blood levels for the past three months and it came back completely fine. They can't force ANY test on you. Hold your ground on this one. Maybe your doctor needs to just take the time and research the surgery...so he sees that he's WRONG in this situation.
