Guest guest
On the one hand, it's promising news that the Health Department is paying attention to things like this. HOWEVER, as soon as you mentioned having Gastric Bypass surgery, that should have put up a flag to them. You're right, many people in the medical field ARE very uneducated in weight loss surgery and what impact it has. It's become SO popular that you'd think by now they are more aware of how to treat us. But, that's clearly not the case. I'm sure it is both upsetting and frustrating for you to have had them contact you. But it all boils down to them being ignorant to what gastric bypass surgery is. Best of luck throughout your preganacy AND your recooperation for WLS! > Okay... She and I looke exactly alike..it's amazing.. ****************************** I have heard that WIC people are so into the " weight " charts for kids.. My 2 year old was a 3 lber preemie... and just until recently he was ALWAYS on the low end of the charts... He is still in the 25th percentile for height... but let's face the facts.. I am 5' and dh is 5'6 ish... not expecting NBA players over here!! Amazingly .. he is now 30 lbs and solid kid. AND he doesn't eat solid foods... he ONLY eats pureed foods. He is seeing a ST and OT... he has some lingering preemie issues and Sensory Issues... Thank God for Whole milk, yogert , and my blender.. LOL Noah will eat any vege... as long as it is pureed. ****************************************************************************** ******* K in Ft Lauderdale mommy to: Noah - officially 2! Guest guest
My daughter also had the same issues when she was eight and she is now ten. They call it pre pubescent puberty. But I still stay its either something in the prenatal pills or the food. Kim in Chicago

Just someone over reacting in my opinion ************************** Nope.. It is standard screening that is mandatory in the State of Florida. Apparently there are a lot of high risk infants that certain tests are done and sent to the Health Department for " Well Baby " follow up. Eating disorders are usually a sign of some sort of Mental illness/disease... and not about weight. Chances are a mother who has a disorder and not getting appropriate treatment could put her kids at risk. I am all for infant/baby safety... and while a bit over zealous and under educated the lady was... I am hoping that thier zeal helps someone down the line.. Good for me I have have tons of documentation... never missed an OB appt.... and have a regular Ped... It just shocks me still that the ob nurses haven't educated themselves on RNY and pregnancy... Should be part of ongoing continuing education! ****************************************************************************** ******* K in Ft Lauderdale mommy to: Noah - officially 2! Guest guest
you know carol, my friends son is 8 and just found (few months ago) pubic hair as well...she was a little wierded out when he pointed this out to her at first (her first born...means she's getting old ya know, lol) i haven't had experience at this age, but since your the 2nd person taht has mentioned, i say it's kinda natural...why put the 6 yo thru testing...screw em... aka mom2ben99 Re: Local Health Department just called me... Well, he was officially an idoit. My 6yo dd has a small amount of pubic hair, and all of my friends and my sister the nurse and my old pediatrician (Ap friendly) said that the only thing we should keep looking for was more signs of maturation which there have not been. He told me that I HAD to bring her in for more testing. I just nodded my head. You know they will bug my dh to death until I bring her in for them to poke and prod. Urgghh. The joy of parenting...and the great joy of military docs. The 6yo calls from the oatmeal bath! I must go. Take care. Carol Sly (Welcome to the Alaskan experience!!) Lovin' Life!
