Guest guest
Hey ladies...I do not post often enough so many of you may not know or remember me... I had an Open RNY December of 2002... and this is my second pregnancy. The first started 3 months post op (while on the pill) and went off without any major problems and I have a healthy boy. Three months after he was born I got pregnant again...this pregnancy has been a little tougher....Nutritionally my levels dropped fast and has been a challenge to keep up!!! The worst is my Iron, which seems to be the biggest problem with most of us Post opers...however treating it has been difficult. They started me on Iron supplements and could not explain why my Iron was still dropping. I was constipated and sick, but my levels were not getting better...anyway, finally I have a Doctor who likes to actually do research...he said that most Iron supplements have a coating that should disolve in the stomach...but it probably does not stay in our stomach long enough to decoat...so I was not getting the effect of Iron, however as it disolved going through my digestive track I was still experiencing the effects of the pills....he said I should have been started on Iron Injections...which I am doing now!!! ANYWAY...on to the reason for this post....I started this terriable itching...I am almost 35 weeks...so I talked to the Midwife who sent me to get my liver enzymes checked. The results came back normal, however she was still curious and has never dealt with a Post Bypass pregnant patient and called some other midwives who have. They told her that it is common in women who have had this surgery to develope extra Bile Salt and that was causing my itching and that I should just take Benedryl... First...have any other post surgery pregnant women experience this? and Second... I have read on the internet that extra Bile Salt can cause still births? Anyone else know anything? should I not worry since the enzymes results came back normal...they say the bile salt can effect the baby after 36 weeks and I am almost 35...so that is why I am a little concerned!!! Thanks for all the help everyone has given to me through this pregnancy!!! Meghan
