hi there, i am 7 months post op from my gastric bypass and

shockingly just found out that i am pregnant on friday night. i

think i might be at least three months pregnant but i wont know

until today. has anyone else gone through a similar circumstance? im

terrified for the health of my baby. this was precautioned against

because i planned to wait a year at least but this miracle has

happened instead. i have a long history with infertility and pcos.

im already in a high risk category. in october of 2001 at 20 weeks,

my dh and i made the heartbreaking choice of ending our pregnancy

because our child was diagnosed with several things, hydrocephalus,

a large opening spina bifida dx, and a head shaped like a lemon.

that time was such a painful memory in my head and i truly dont know

how i got passed the pain. i had to go on because of my little one

already at home.

needless to say the dr.s told me i have a 1 in 30 chances of having

another pregnancy with the same diagnosis. they told me i can

strongly prevent these from occuring by upping my folic acid three

months before conception and the first trimester. Desperate for

another baby, i went on to a third pregnancy with a miraculous

success after conceiving on our first cycle IUI and injectibles and

our 2nd son was born last year in august 03. it was a blessed

success, we were lucky to say the least.

i had gastric bypass this year in march and am down about 99lbs. but

now i find myself pregnant. i think i am at least three months but

dh and i are totally in shock. its dangerous i think that i have

been loosing so much weight and yet i have been pregnant without

even knowing it. in the passed, i have been so in tune with my body

that for someone to tell me they didnt know they were pregnant, i

would have thought they were on drugs.

because of my diet and lack of nutrition since the surgery, i fear

for the health of my child, not only nutritionally but because i was

not taking the supplemental folic acid i could have been doing had i

know (in order to prevent another sick baby.)

has anyone else been in my situation with a recent gastricbypass

surgery behind them and found themselves pregnant suddenly so far

along without even knowing it?

we were taking precautions to avoid pregnancy. we had considered

getting pregnant after a year as that is when it is considered safe.

but in the passed, having pcos, i have never been able to conceive

without turkey basters or drugs, and even then it was a struggle.

I will update later today. thank you for the kind welcome ladies!!

i look forward to being part of a group that is so specific to my

situation and special needs.

Moderator note:

... to ease your mind a little, there have been women who were pregnant

DURING their gastric bypass and continued to lose massive amounts of weight

during pg and the baby was born fine and healthy. It takes what it needs from

you. Now, your job is to make certain you get in EVERYTHING your body needs for

the both of you Sure, it's hard work and diligent effort, but the results in the

end are SOOOOO worth it. Poor Dubin on this list found out she was

pregnant 7 (SEVEN FOLKS!) weeks after her GBP, and her baby joshie is just

gorgeous! She can tell you more!

Neverfear, but be cautious. Get in plenty of your vitamins, minerals, FOLIC ACID

and B12 are biggies!!

No reason you can't deliver a happy healthy 8 pounder!
