Deb,

I don't see your honestly as 'gloom and doom', you are being realistic. It

sounds to me as tho Dan is very angry and maybe in denial also. It is

unusual for him to not be interested in what chemo he is getting, either

that or he is so panicked that he blanks out when the doctor talks to him.

My husband did this at first which is why I went to every appointment and

took notes. Although Bill said he wasn't scared, had a positive attitude,

etc., he couldn't remember a word the docs said once we were out the door.

I would find information on the net and he would tell me to read it but not

to him. He is much better about it now and taking an active interest in his

treatments. That 'pressure' over the abdomen may very well be gas, a most

common thing post-surgery even at this late date. Have you tried on OTC gas

relief like Simethocone (liquid) or Gas-X yet? Also his diet may need to be

the low-roughage diet.

Bill had a rough night last night with heavy pressure and pain in the rectal

area and the Gas-X does seem to help but the doctor said absolutely no Prep

H suppository while he is on radiation when we asked about it. He also said

the pain could be hemorrhoids from all of the pressure and bathroom trips

(sometimes 10-12 a day) and ask Bill if he wanted to be checked but Bill was

too exhausted to undress again and will get checked today. If it is

hemorrhoids he said there is other medication he will prescribe.

I think I bragged too soon the other day about lack of side effects. They

are starting to show up now, no nausea, but extreme fatigue and loss of

appetite.

Jan, thank you for the information. Sam did take gas pill simethecone last

night, but complained that it caused him to have more gas. LOL I think his diet

has been a little bit high on the fiber. The surgeon had told him he could eat

anything he wanted. So that has been a struggle to keep him from the stuff he

always used to eat. This morning for breakfast he ate a cereal that had oat

clusters and almonds in it. I just could not argue with him again, so let him

eat it. At least he stays away from the prunes now.

Also I had the talk with him about the Depends type protective underwear, pull

up kind. It did say culottes in French on the back of the package. I had this

package that I had used when I had my respiratory infection coughing spell. I

showed him the label on the package where it said it was for women and men. He

said no he couldn't wear that. I said it will keep your slacks clean. He said it

looked too bulky. I said it will keep your dignity. He said what if it smells. I

said then change it, and put on a clean one. He asked if it would show under his

slacks. I said I don't think so, unless your pants are too tight. Any way, after

almost pleading with him that it is ok to wear these, he finally admitted to me

that the doctor had mentioned the protective underwear to him. I think Sam was

actually glad that he didn't have to go to the store and buy a package himself.

I bet in the future he can pretend that he is buying it for me. :)

Glad Bill is not having a bunch of nausea. Is he on an anti-nausea medication?

Keep us updated on him. Take care.

Oh Jan, I feel so sorry for Bill. He should be able to get stronger

in between the chemo treatments. I think the combination of all the

treatements is really wearing him down. I am sending an extra Prayer

for him. I hope he gets to feeling stronger. Ingrid

Deb,

I din't notice that you had tried Beno. I recently

discovered Beno and almost anything I eat will cause

gas without Beno. I just take two pills at the start

of each meal. I is most important with any high fiber

vegitibles or even cereal. All it is is an enzyme so

it doesn't effect anything else. Gasex only works for

me if the gas is in my stomach. After the gas is in

the colon the gasex doesn't seem to work.
