Hi can anyone give advice on how to treat sore places on the head due to

Erbitux.

Mikes face and head are horrendous, chest arms and back are terrible spots but

facial skin

has changed out of all recognition, like lizard skin with spots and pustules.

Although hair is short skin is far worse with open inflamed bumps and spots.

Hes in a sorry state as cant lay down as pressure on head is very painful.

This is only after 2 infusions next one due Monday but cant see him accepting

it,

in Spain

Oh Chriss, I am so sorry to hear that Mike is having such terrible

reactions. The drug is working from what they say.

I don't have any answers for you since I have no experence with

this.

Please call his doctor and se if they can prescribe something at

once. Mike should not be suffering like this. My heart is with both

of you. Ingrid

Hi Chris.

I empathize with Mike. I had terrible outbreaks on my scalp also. I

did cut my hair very short. The spots ended up infected and I had to

take antibiotics several times. The dr. held treatment one week and

it helped. It seems that the first outbreak is the worst. The next

one was not as bad. I know that is not comforting but it does get

better. My scalp was so infected that I would wake up with blood all

over my pillowcase. The spots opened as I moved my head while I

slept. I also would have spots of blood on my shirt from the ones on

my chest and back. The first outbreak my sister covered my head in

calamine. It helped a bit. My face looked awful at the same time.

The spots were very fragile and opened and bled easily. The nurses

kept telling me to wear my spots with pride as it meant the treatment

was working. I felt like a leper. Tell Mike to hang in there and

maybe a week off would give them a chance to heal some. I know the

beginning weeks of my erbitux treatment were awful. I honestly did

not think I would make it through. It slowly got easier. You are

both in my prayers.

Hi, Chris. I looked back a few messages and Jane wrote about the Erbitux rash.

She says she had it and her scalp was infected, but it got better. Please talk

with the doctor as soon as you can. I'm sure you will find something that helps

him.

I tried many things for the rash as I had it quite heavily. I found that

caladryl or calamine helped a bit. I also tried Aveeno, gold bond cream,

lamosil, powder and a few others. Nothing really helped. The rash on my back

and chest did not usually itch though. I ended up shaving my hair to about an

inch because my scalp kept getting infected. The nurse who headed the research

dept. at the cancer center said she had heard of people dabbing the spots with

head and shoulders. I did not try that one. It has been 6 weeks since I

stopped erbitux and you can still see the spots although they have faded some.

Erbitux did clear up the mets in my liver while I was on it. Now that I am off

it I have the beginnings of one spot in my liver again. Good Luck. Both Mike

and Phil are in my prayers.

The rash is a form of acne. I used Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP,0.1%. You

will need a script. Mine came in a 1lb jar. It also comes such as gels tubes
