Guest guest
My port has been in for 17 months and is on the left side. I plan on leaving it in for 6 months after I feel secure as it does not bother me at all. In regard to the PET not being approved have you seen the data your hospital sent to the insurance company to justify the PET. If not ask for it. With my insurance CTs are automatically approved but PETs must be pre-approved. I forgot to get a PET pre-approved this summer and it was denied. ONC was able to send additional data and got it approved. I believe a good ONC can write enough to satisfy the insurance company if they will take the time. Fight it- do not just accept the first decision
Guest guest
My port is also on the left, under my collar bone. It does not bother me, other than psychologically. I so want it removed. I, like hope we can take it out after my next review. I am really upset now, because my PET scan that was done in April was denied. I kept fighting it, but here goes another $5,000 bucks blown! My doctor ordered another PET scan for next week. There is no way though. I simply cannot afford it. He will not do a CT scan as he feels the PET scan offers superior information. Life! I will be working long hours once again, and so you may see me infrequently. Guest guest
Dear Jay, How oh so unfair these stupid people/burecrats are!! I had my port removed because of the move. Will be a transplanted southwesterner soon. Take care, Karima Re: ports Joe is NOT THIN , and his port sticks out , looks like an alien pod is stuck under there His is on the left , near his collarbone, he doesnt have to worry about bra straps but he does have issues with the seatbelt , he had to buy a seatbelt pad .. Guest guest
Jay, You can contact Patient Advocate and they will intervene and try to talk to your insurance. You can contact them online and they will call you back. I am in the process of letting them intervene for me right now with my insurance company. They work as a mediator for you. Try them and see if you can get better results with your insurace company. Ingrid > >>>my port sticks out because I am thin. I'm lucky it doesn't bother me. > > Nonnie > >>> > > Same here. Guest guest
My port was installed about 9 months ago for a round of FOLFOX6. And I think the PET scan is a computer enhanced image using the radioactive tracer they inject into us which is laced with sugar. The sugar goes right to the cancer cells and the radioactivity makes the cancer glow, and project onto the image. MRI, is just Magnetic imaging and from what my doc tells me is not as good as a CT or PET scan. Jay Re: ports >>>My port is also on the left, under my collar bone. Guest guest
PET scan is what my doctor recommends. He is a well rated doctor, and so thats what he uses. And yes, CO is especially pretty this year. Jay ~ holler for that PET... make sure your insurance will cover it though first!
