Do you tell strangers your child is Autistic, do you

just not say anything? I just don't know. I am not

ashamed of my son however I know the stigma that goes

with Autism and I know that many people will react

very strongly to it and perhaps not want their child

to play with mine (like it is catching LOL).

Yes and no. When we first got the DX, I had waited so

long and was so relieved to be able to call it

something, that I told everyone I met almost

immediately. Now I only tell if I think it's necessary

or if someone asks. I get many people who say things

like " He reminds me of my nephew, who is autistic. "

And is 4'5 " 95 pound 8 year old who acts like a

3 year old, so it's obvious to most people that

something is up with him.

Some people do freak out about his autism; most do

not. And some, like my neighbor the eye doc, think

it's 'cool'.
