Guest guest
Hi, Jan. Thanks for checking on me. Sorry I am late. I had several phone calls and my son was hogging the computer. LOL The first day went well. We thought he was getting chemo five days a week, but he got the fanny pack with 5FU and goes every Monday for a refill. The radiation will be five days a week with Sat & Sun to rest. He was in there from 1:30 to 5:30, or there abouts, because he also had the CT scan to map the place for radiation, including lymph nodes to make sure all the surrounding area will get bombarded. The radiation will be for four weeks, then two more weeks of aggressive radiation to kill everything. Sorry if that sounds simplistic. That's what we were told. LOL Sam was in a very good mood and hope this lasts as long as it possibly can. He is gargling four times a day with baking soda mixed in water to prevent mouth sores. I had not heard of that, so it sounds good to me. OMG, I am tired. This has been such a stressful day. I need to relax. My getting stressed out is not going to help him. Does that make sense? Let us know how Bill is doing, too. You take care. Keep the prayers coming, please. TIA ~Deb from KS Jan wrote: Did your husband start chemo today as planned? Guest guest
Hi, . I lived in the north part of Wichita when I was little, then we moved to Valley Center to get away from the noisy train tracks near 21st and Broadway. haha My husband and I live close to Topeka now, with our youngest son. The oldest lives in Kansas City, Kansas and the middle one lives in the KC KS suburb of Lenexa. Are you in Wichita? Did you watch the CBS movie on Sunday, The Hunt for the BTK Killer? Wow, that was something. I'm glad they did not make it scary, but more informative with a touch of hero in the cops who were trying to catch the serial killer. BTK was just captured in February 2005 and kept in the county jail in Wichita. He plead guilty and there was no trial. He was taken to federal prison the very day that my husband had his colonoscopy. That was a very happy day for putting that serial killer where he belonged, and a very sad day to find out that my husband had a cancerous tumor. That is life. Sometimes up and sometimes down. Kinda like a red rubber ball. If you remember that old song. ~Deb from KS sftfemme@... wrote: Deb, Are you guys in Wichita? --------------------------------- Yahoo! Guest guest
Yes, We are in Wichita. I didn't watch the show about BTK because quite frankly I don't think I can bare to hear one more thing about it..lol. It has been a non stop media frenzy down here and its just gotten to the point that I just wish it was over for good.
Guest guest
Thanks, Donelle. I'm sure the whole song is not really applicable, but the refrain or chorus just keeps coming back to my mind whenever I am in a pickle: And I think it's gonna be all right, Yeah, the worst is over, Now the morning sun is shining like a red rubber ball. Hope everyone is having an ok day or even a good day. ~Deb from KS Grandmommyandme@... wrote: In a message dated 10/11/2005 3:00:55 AM Eastern Standard Time, flytodeb@... writes: That is life. Guest guest
Hi, . Sorry you missed the BTK movie. I'm sure it was nothing new that you didn't know already. But I have friends who discuss the case and so I watched it with my son. I can't say that it was a waste of two hours, because I enjoyed the theme of the movie, that the law enforcement got their man! Woohoo! That was very satisfactory. Unfortunately, this serial killer probably will be in the news forever. This week is the hearing about whether or not Dennis Rader can have papers, books, and writing instruments while in prison. We will have to hear about him every time something happens: he asks for a new lawyer, has an interview, writes someone a letter, makes a phone call. Maybe he gets ill or or goes to the hospital when another inmate stabs him. Anything could happen. Yes, his despicable life is over, yet he is still going to be there. I used to sleep with the light on when I was at home alone. Now I don't. It's a great feeling. Hope you and your loved ones are doing well. Take care. ~Deb from KS sftfemme@... wrote: Yes, We are in Wichita. I didn't watch the show about BTK because quite frankly I don't think I can bare to hear one more thing about it..lol. Guest guest
Deb from Kansas, I am glad that all went well on Sam's first day. It is good that he is in a good frame of mind over this. Yes, the chemo days are very long and time consuming. You will find that you will make lots of friends there while your husband gets chemo. I am Praying that all stays well through this whole treatments. Get some rest and you will feel better. Ingrid > > Did your husband start chemo today as planned? Guest guest
Hi, Ingrid. Thank you for the message. I hope that you are feeling well and the cold weather at nights is not getting to you. I have had the house set on the heater since last Thursday night. It has been in the 30's and 40's sometimes at night. No need for air conditioner at all now. The temperature is fine in the day time and while I am cooking dinner. When the sun goes down and the cooking is over, then the heater comes on and then shuts off every so often. Thank God for the heaters and air conditioners. Take care. Thank you for the prayers! ~Deb from KS Ingrid Lowe wrote: Deb from Kansas, I am glad that all went well on Sam's first day. Guest guest
Hi Deb, Been cool here at night too. In the high 50's, House stays warm so still have not turned heat on. Am way too worried about them high propane bills. They keep saying it is going up a lot. Do not know how we will do it. But God always see us through it. Did find out yesterday when it got a little to warm in the house that the oven does heat it up in here. Made meat loaf, butternut sqush and potatoes in the oven. Have avoided using the oven most of the summer because I did not want to stress the ac more then we had too.LOL Hope the winter is a mild one. Guest guest
Ingrid, I know what you mean about not turning on the oven in the summer. I have a little toaster oven that can bake up to 450 degrees or so. It bakes just like the big oven, but does not heat up the house as bad. I use it to warm up bread or bake some heart healthy fish. Once in a blue moon I will heat up a store bought pie that has already been baked. It is very useful. I slice the potatoes in half the long way and can bake them in half the time. That is nice if you don't mind the smaller size of the baked potato. Yes, hope the winter is mild this year. hagn ~Deb from KS Ingrid Lowe wrote: Hi Deb, Been cool here at night too. Guest guest
Thank you for the idea of slicing the potatoe in half for baking. My potatoes were still not done all the ways when my meatloaf and squash were done. I ended up finishing them in the microwave. Do you put anything on the potatoes when you bake them in halves? Guest guest
Ingrid, I spray on that PAM type cooking spray or spread a little vegetable oil on the potato halves with my finger. If I pour on the oil I always put too much. This cooking spray or oil always makes the potatoes brown up pretty. I have baked them without any oil and the tops of the potatoes were dry, but they taste the same as baked potatoes. ~Deb from KS Ingrid Lowe wrote: Thank you for the idea of slicing the potatoe in half for baking.
