My mum has never been big on congrats and it was only when i heard her ringing relatives with the news and telling every neighbour that she met how well I had done that i realised she was actually proud of me. my dad promised me £10 for every one that I passed and so had to hand over £70 which in 1979 was quite a lot. With my kids I have always told them to do their best and we will be proud of them whatever the results. We have given an incentive in the way of monetary reward for each exam passed from £25 for an A to £5 for an E so every exam is celebrated.(started cos my son was capable but idle :-) ) Every relative/friend is rung and told the results and then we go out for a meal with any family free to come with us welcome. Some of the family also send cards (congrats on passing exams) Last year it cost us £180 this year it cost £160. However my next DD is a straight A student so I may need to start saving (2yrs to go) Donna Mum to (17) Kimberley(16), Kayleigh(14), (11), Kara (4) [homebirth at last]
