Guest guest
Sorry that was not meant to mean that Lonnie was a silly name!!! My American baby name book says that Lonny means " kind excellent cook " and is derived from the German. Just wondered if you knew? Guest guest
Francesca Not got your original post so I am not sure what you said to make you think I would think you said Lonnie was a silly name ;o) But with regards to Lonny you are making a vital mistake and that is you are assuming that because the names are pronounced the same they will mean the same.. Lonny (which btw usually is a boy's name as opposed to Lonni/e that can be both - not that this means a lot in this day and age) can as you said be derived via German but it can also be traced via Hebrew (from Zebulon) and then it means the dwelling place.. BUT Lonnie.. is derived from Lawrence (Latin) and means crowned with Laurels or feminine version (as in me <g>) can be derived from Anona (Latin) and means Yearly crops... So no double chef's in my maiden name ;o)... (btw never a good idea to tell a Danish person s/he has anything to do with anything German lol - no offence to anyone with German traces ;o) ) Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama & expecting a Christmas delivery... My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what you start. So far today, I have finished 2 bags of chips and a Chocolate cake. I feel better already. Guest guest
BUT Lonnie.. is derived from Lawrence (Latin) and means crowned with Laurels or feminine version (as in me <g>) This is another argument - ce or Lawrence? DH (ce) insists that the version with a W is a surname not a forename. I suppose i get more annoyed with 'athan' instead of '' - I mean it doesn't even look right! I must admit I would have thought the other way around as it means crowned with laurels... Still Fletcher is both a surname and a first name so why not Lawrence?? (BTW my dh insists that he thinks Fletcher would be a great first name for a boy.....) Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama & expecting a Christmas delivery... Guest guest
That's American name books for you!! Lonny was definitely under the girls' name bit!! Sorry, I won't accuse you of being anything remotely to do with German again - ;0). I just thought it was quite a weird interpretation of a name as normally it is something much more flowery than that, like " Gift of God " or one word like " noble " or " pure " ! Incidentally another baby name book I have (anything make you think I am desperately searching for inspiration for no. 3 if it is a girl?!) says that Lonnie (again girl name) is anglicised version of the Spanish Alonso. Guest guest
Funny with the lonny thing being on the female side but still makes little difference these day's as it seems all names can be changes over ;o).. Never heard it being from Alonso will have to put that on my list of explanations ;o).. I agree most names seems to have a flower meaning or some " goodly " interpretation (or one word like noble as you said) but there are obviously exceptions.. It btw took me 4 years of searching before I found anywhere that had a explanation of what Lonnie meant as it has only been in the 90's it has become a more " known " name.. Sadly in the UK it constantly get's put down as a male name (because of Lonnie Donnogan or what ever his name was ;o) ) and it drives me up the wall.. Also I think one of the reasons I am not mad on names that can be both male and female.. I like to know if it is a man or a woman ;o) Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama & expecting a Christmas delivery... I always assumed it was more " LONE i " If that makes sense. I agree I like boys names and girls names - not ones that can be either. One of the midwives at the hospital said that they had delivered a Denim Levi or Levi Denim she could not remember which! I always remember the smallest girl at school-I always felt so sorry for her tracing her name as her name was Wellington. It is such a mouthful. Trisha - who always hated my maiden name of Pollard and called myself Trisha ASAP.

I am always like NO idea what do you think it could be short for?? (don't say that but I think it lol just smile politely and say it is not a abbreviation... ) Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama & expecting a Christmas delivery...
