My announcements to DH went: (He'd been away on a week's sailing course) After much discussion of his week... " So, how are you? " " I'm fine...I'm also pregnant " He didn't actually *say* anything, but shall we just say he doesn't have any taboos about sex in pregnancy... Second time (he'd been away for work for a couple of days (now that he doesn't want any more, he doesn't go away!)) I say " We can't go to Cornwall for the Eclipse " Indignant " Why not? " " Because that's when the next baby is due " (I did threaten to give birth in the garden, but it wasn't necessary) -- jennifer@... Feels good doesn't it? I was not happy with just how many people's *first* comment on learning that DS2 had arrived was " Will you be trying again for a girl? " (But then I suppose other folk do the lottery on a regular basis...) On the other hand, we have to be realistic - many people *do* have a preference, however much they feel obliged to repeat the " anything as long as it is healthy " mantra (much as they do about giving birth) and perhaps it is no bad thing for them to feel allowed to express some disappointment - and for those of us who are chuffed to bits, we only have the annoyance to put up with (Does make you feel as though the 'wrong/duplicate sex' child is less valued by other people though :-() in all honesty though I think people are often just making idle conversation. -- jennifer@...
