Guest guest
I am amazed that codeine, etc are given out here without a > prescription and that I was offered some in the maternity > ward without anyone checking on my medical history. My MIL downed the stuff for years for her bad cough (life long problem stemming from TB as a teenager) and realised after a while that she was craving it - then discovering the 'opiate' aspect and reluctantly gave it up! Incidentally I had a very bad food poisoning problem when I didn't realise i was preg back in '99 and she gave me some stuff called 'Brownes mixture' which did the job of curing the vomiting - but I think actually killed the foetus (it was a blighted ovum and this was only discovered at 11 weeks). This is why I am so paranoid about taking medicine during preg. I did get so bad last night that I finally took 2 paracetomol and I have had some antibiotic eye drops earlier in the month - but i am praying I won't need anything else.
