Guest guest
I just finished reading Andy's book, and I have to admit that I was a little confused in some parts (I have no experience with medical books-other than my new research). In the book it seemed that Andy was recommending fairly high doses of DMSA or DMPS to be given around the clock, but from the internet group I got the impression that you start very low. I was planning to start my 4 year old (30 lbs) with DMSA 5 mg. Will this small amount be effective, or will it just push metals around? Thanks,

It is not a read once and get it all book. It is one that you will refer back to again and again, as things start to click and make more sense. The good thing about reading it all at first, is that, when something does come up, you may remember that you read something about it, and then can go back and look for it, and then this time it might start to make sense. I have had the book for 3 years and still don't understand it all, but I certainly understand alot more than I did the first time around!--------Jackie -----------I think some of the big parts to get the first time is *what not to do*.-------Jackie In the book it seemed that Andy was recommending fairly high doses of DMSA or DMPS to be given around the clock, but from the internet group I got the impression that you start very low. ------------The best advice I got from these groups was to start lower than the book suggested. The book was written in 1999, so quite awhile ago, and many people have found that they need to start very low. And there is no way for us to know who can and can't tolerate what dose of chelator, so it is safest for us to recommend that everyone start low. Also, at Moria's website, she gives Andy recommendations, especially for children, and says to start at 1/8 to 1/2 mg per lb, and in HTI he says to start at *about 1/4 mg per lb* and adjust up or *down* depending on side effects. So he is certainly fine with starting at lower doses.---------Jackie I was planning to start my 4 year old (30 lbs) with DMSA 5 mg. Will this small amount be effective, or will it just push metals around? ----------This certainly sounds like a safe amount, and is right in that 1/8 to 1/4 mg per lb to start with (5mg/30lb = 1/6), that Andy recommends, so this should be fine. And yes this amount will be effective. As long as the chelators are taken at their half-life, then they are safely removing metals from your body, because you are keeping your blood levels fairly constant, so they actually have a chance to get carried all the way out of your body. It's when you take high, infrequent doses, that metals can get pushed around and redistributed to new places when the chelator wears off and drops the metals somewhere else.-------Jackie ---------And again, I would suggest you ask on the Autism-Mercury group, where there are many parents chelating their kids using Andy's protocol, and you could ask them what doses they started at, just for some confirmation.--------Jackie Thanks,
Guest guest
, When my grandson began chelation at 3y/30lbs for lead and mercury problems, we used 5-6mg of dmsa every 4 hours on a 3/7 cycle. He tolerated it well and was a quick responder. Now 8y, he's a second grader, funny, social, smart etc with no classroom support. Low and slow!! Good luck, > > I was planning to start my 4 year old (30 lbs) with DMSA 5 mg.
