Guest guest
Deb, I am glad that the doctor is wathcing Sam close enough to stop the chemo for awhile to give Sam's body a chance to rest and heal. So sad that the chemo destroys good as well as bad cells. Hopefully Sam will get to feeling better with his break. The radiation sounds like it is getting harder for Sam. I am sending extra Prayers up for Sam that he stays strong and that he does not suffer. He is almost half way through the radiation. Then you can start counting down. Hoepfully the time goes by quickly and the end of it will be here before you know it. Please tell Sam that we are praying for him. Love, Ingrid > > Sam went for his 5fu chemo to be refilled today, fanny pack. Was supposed to start week 4 of the 5 week chemo, but the doctor looked at him, dark skin on his hands, forehead, and neck and said take a week off. Doctor said he was low in B-6. Said the chemo sucked it all out of his body. That sounds like something Jon's doc would say. haha How quaint. > > Sam is so happy to have this week break. He is taking his vitamins and drinking his water. However, his radiation treatments still continue. After session #11 of 30 sessions, he began to have rectal bleeding. Today when he went for #12 the doc told him that it is normal and will continue. ::argh:: > > Take care everyone. Hang in there. > ~Deb from KS > > > --------------------------------- > Yahoo! Guest guest
Thank you for the message, Ingrid. Yes, Sam is almost half way home on the radiation. This Thursday will be #15 and then Friday we will be counting down like you said. Thank you for putting it so positive, Ingrid. You are a real asset to this group. Thank you for your prayers. They really mean a lot to Sam and me. To everyone. God bless you and keep you strong and increase your health. ~Deb from KS Ingrid Lowe wrote: Deb, I am glad that the doctor is wathcing Sam close enough to stop the chemo for awhile to give Sam's body a chance to rest and heal. Guest guest
Deb, My onc told me last week he has patients on Xeloda also take B6. Xeloda is the same as the 5-FU. Only been taking it for a month and now he finally tells me it will help my energy level. Thanis, Doc. Fly to Deb wrote: Sam went for his 5fu chemo to be refilled today, fanny pack. Guest guest
Hi, . I was just telling my husband today that unless you ask, the doctors won't tell you anything. You have to drag it out of them. I think it is because they have so many patients, they can't remember what they told each one of them. If they told a patient the same thing twice, they might feel foolish. Well my husband needs to be told everything twice or three times any way. He used to have a very good memory, but the traumatic events that he has been going through make him zone out and he doesn't hear what is said, and asks about it again. I looked up Vitamin B-6 deficiency and this is the kind of foods that are useful: (from Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible) Best Natural Sources of B-6: Brewer's yeast, wheat bran, wheat germ, liver, kidney, soy beans, cantaloupe, cabbage, blackstrap molasses, unmilled rice, eggs, oats, peanuts, walnuts. Since cancer patients are not eating properly, they probably don't eat these. They hardly eat anything. So vitamins are great. I told my husband we have B-Complex or B-50 which is all the B vitamins at 50 mg. each. He was so happy. He thought he would have to go buy some B-6, and we already had it. He should have been taking his B-Complex. I thought that he was. I'm going to have to watch him take his vitamins I guess. I thought he was big enough to take his own vitamins. Guest guest
Lydia, thank you so much for your kind words. Sam's chemo doctor is very competent. He knew right away that he was not well and canceled this week's chemo so he can rest up. Last night Sam's heart was racing. Normally his pulse would be in the 60's because he's very healthy, but it was 100 something. Finally it calmed down. Then he had a bloody nose and called his doctor. He said put pressure on it and lean back. Looks like my dear husband is doing just fine and the chemo is affecting him just the way it is supposed to affect him. Thank you for the prayers. Sending prayers to you and Filippo and everyone here. ~Deb from KS mily wrote: Hi Deb, Good to hear about Sam's update. Also glad to know he's going to have a break from chemo. Guest guest
Gee Deb, Rectal bleeding doesn't sound like fun. Those doctors can think of more ways to tortue us can't they. I'm glad I didn't have radiation. I have been taking 200 units a day of Vitamin B6. Has Sam been doing that too? Best of luck to you and Sam Len --- Fly to Deb wrote: --------------------------------- Sam went for his 5fu chemo to be refilled today, fanny pack. Guest guest
Hi, Len. Sam is taking B-Complex, which has all the B vitamins together. It is also called B-50 because they are at the 50 mg dosage. You know the doc didn't say how strong the B-6 should be. Thank you for telling me 200 is what you take. I will tell my Sam and maybe I should buy a bottle of B-6 at a higher dosage. I did some quick research on the dangers of overdose. The website that sells 250 mg. of B-6 had this warning: WARNING: Overdose of Vitamin B-6 may cause nerve damage, headaches and loss of balance. Consult with your Health Care Professional for best dosage. Drat! I hope nobody thinks I am advertising for this place, but you have to read the good things about B-6 and the physical and psychological symptoms of B-6 deficiency they have listed here. http://2line.com/B-6.html Thank you for talking to me about B-6, Len. It is a very important supplement. For the whole family, not just cancer patients. I see one of the symptoms of B-6 deficiency is insomnia. That is what I have been going through lately. Hope the new results on your CAT scan are good. And your CEA number. Take care. ~Deb from KS Len Henell wrote: Gee Deb, Rectal bleeding doesn't sound like fun. Guest guest
Len, you mentioned taking 200 units of B-6 daily. My son told me last night that 200 units of B-6 is the maximum. Now I am wondering how that website was selling B-6 tablets that are 250 mg. each??? That would be an overdose and cause the problems mentioned in their own disclaimer. " WARNING: Overdose of Vitamin B-6 may cause nerve damage, headaches and loss of balance. Consult with your Health Care Professional for best dosage. " I hope that nobody purchases that megadose of B-6 from that company. That would be a tragedy waiting to happen. ~Deb from KS Fly to Deb wrote: I did some quick research on the dangers of overdose.
