Guest guest
I'm a bit nervous this morning. I hope by this evening I will have had better news. Thing is, when we spoke to Rabbi M in Israel and intimated that Yeshaya would probably want to come to Yeshivah next week, he said that whenever he came, he would be welcome and would be fitted in. (ie the term actually started a week before we came home). Yesterday we had the final Big Chat with Yeshaya, and this time he asked us if we *could* please find out if he could get into 6th form of that other school. I must admit I was a bit thrown, but I suppose it was understandable as since we got home, he has been spending his time with friends who would be in that 6th form, and was missing them in advance, as it were. As it is still school hols, I didn't quite know how I would find out before term started next week, which is when he was going to go back to Israel. DH was reluctant to phone headmasters at home during the holidays, but I decided that was the only way to go, so found out the phone number and spoke to him. The Head said that the basic 5 C's Yeshaya would have needed was just to get *into* the school (ie to do any courses, crammers etc), in order to get into 6th form he needed B's. So that was that, and Yeshaya knew it. So he happily discussed leaving for Yeshivah next Wednesday (his 6th form friends go back on Tuesday and he wants to squeeze every last drop of company with them). All sorted.. Until Dh rang Rabbi M to inform him. Couldn't get through for ages, eventually got through to *MRS* M on her mobile, and she fiffed and faffed about how it's the middle of a term, and it's difficult to get boys in, and maybe he should wait till after the High Holidays (mid October!!!!) DH said that her husband had agreed to take him whenever, and she said she'd pass on the message. So now I feel in limbo. Dh says I shouldn't worry, if Rabbi M said it would be OK to come mid term, then it will, and he'll sort it out later on today, and after all he does owe us favours cos he uses our house when we aren't there etc etc... but I like to have things signed and sealed and now I'm all nervous that if Yeshaya IS made to wait another six weeks or so, he'll lose all the momentum, and anyway what's he supposed to DO here in the meantime?? I took Yeshaya clothes shopping earlier yesterday (before this worrying phone call). I have never ever had such an impatient shopper with me! He hates shopping, usually I do it all for him and hope it fits. He had to get a suit, lots of shirts, another pair of trousers.. Yeshivah garb. He was reasonably patient trying on the suit, we got that, and the trousers, after that, he whizzed me through M & S like a whirlwind, picking up shirts ike an episode of Supermarket Sweep! We never got to underwear, casual trousers etc..he wasn't interested! I guess I'll have to get those without him again! Sorry for rambling. A bit of an amusing story to end with: I gave my much loved car ( N reg ford escort convertible) in for a new gearbox and to have the body work made pristine again, while we were away. Hang it all they had 3 weeks to do the work in! Well, as you guessed, despite international phonecalls to the garage to make sure I'd have it back when we returned, it wasn't ready. Yesterday after much annoyed nagging phonecalls on my part, I get a call back from the garage. Not being racist here, but try and put on a Jamaican accent for the garage mechanic when you read this, it sounds better! Mechanic: " Do you want the good news or the bad news? " Me: " Um..whichever. " Mechanic: " The good news is you will have your car back tomorrow. " Me: " And the bad news? " Mechanic: " You won't have it back today. Guest guest
Can you put Yeshaya out to work for a few weeks? Then he could help pay for all the new clothes! Mrs. M said she *never* intended to give the impression that Yeshaya wasn't wanted till after the Jewish holidays, she was just a bit concerned because the Yeshivah is very full and they have been turning applicants away. However, for OUR son... blah blah blah. (Embarrasing but useful to have strings one can pull on occasion...) DH still has to speak to RAbbi M and the other Rabbis in charge, but it seems pretty much settled, at least I hope so, don't count your chickens etc. Ruthie
Guest guest
Well, I did wonder whether the phone bill had been resolved yet. :-) When we in New York our friend's daughter told us her friend had run up a 900 dollar phone bill in one month!!! She must have had her ear been permanently glued to the thing. Guest guest
don't count your chickens etc. > > Well maybe not relax quite yet then fingers crossed ... > > Jenni Well, it's as sorted as it can be. DH has spoken to the Powers That Be at the Yeshivah, his plane ticket is booked, his itinerary planned. As his flight arrives late at night, he will stay over at Dov and Tavya's that first night (Dov is meeting him at the airport, good lad!) and he is to present himself at yeshivah after lunch on Thursday. What I need to know now is, does he need to bring bedding as well as bed linen...ie duvets and pillows. I think he probably does, as Zehava had to when she went to seminary. Hm! I think a visit to Wembley market on Sunday is called for, to get another duvet, pillow, some towels, and maybe a *very* noticeable suitcase on wheels. This is his " last Sabbath at home " , and we have our two grandsons (8 and nearly 6) staying as DD2 Tammy has gone away to Bournemouth. (She left her two daughters (10 and 18 months) with her in-laws, and I think I got the better deal, as toddler Shira is a right PITA ) Yeshaya's a bit annoyed with us for having invited a certain Rabbi for lunch tomorrow whom he doesn't get on with, but I guess he'll just have to learn to put up with it! Thank the Lord he approves of Rabbi M! Ruthie
