Guest guest
Donelle Glad to hear that Glenn is feeling better and feeling no pain, or minimal anyway. Sorry his friend couldn't make the trip but hope he does next week. Oh hugs to that friend who brought the casserole and your sis for those rolls. Sounds so good, can you get recipe from her. LOL. Just hang in there gal. I hope too they can find someone to come visit with Glenn while you are at work. I can well understand you not wanting him to be alone. I used to hate leaving Richie alone when I had to go to store, but most of time he was okay sitting on sofa watching tv. Anyway.. just take it one day at a time. Hugs and Prayers Jolene Quick Glenn Update Morning everyone!! Just a quickie here....Glenn has been wearing the Fentanyl pain patch (25 mcg) since last Friday. WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!! He's awake and not sleeping 20 hrs a day (still naps, but that's o.k.), eating, talking, smiling, returning phone calls or making phone calls to friends....my Glenn is back!! Well, almost!!! He's still very, very weak...still losing weight...still having the diarrhea several times a day, but most nights has slept through. He's says it feels soooo good to sleep most of the night. He's only had one episode of break-through pain, where he had to take the Oxycodone, but took it w/o a fight. A friend of mine brought over a one dish dinner for us last night...she's an angel, ya know?? That was such a pleasant surprise. For me to come home exhausted from work and only have to stick the dish in the microwave was truly a blessing. Then my sister stopped over, b/c she had some estate papers from Mom's estate that needed my signature.... and she brought Glenn some peach cinnamon rolls, so you know she's tops on HIS list...LOL Glenn's old Coast Guard buddy from 40 yrs. ago was suppose to come down and visit with him yesterday, but b/c of the tornado warnings and horrible thunder storms they were having, he didn't make it...will come next Tues. Glenn was looking forward to visiting with him...and they were going to attempt to fix one of our toilets that needs a seal replaced. I verified with Arlington National Cemetery that Glenn is, indeed, eligible for burial there...which pleases Glenn immensely. The rules change there constantly, but if you have certain distinguished medals with a certain rank or war time, you qualify. He is credited with 1800 lives saved and tons of drug busts coming in to the U.S. by boat from Columbia, etc. Mentally and emotionally, I'm not sure where either of us are!!! I'm just so happy to have him awake and functioning....thanks for all your prayers. Hospice nurses have been great so far... waiting for them to find a volunteer to come in the 2 days, just to spend time with Glenn and fix a light lunch for him.... the regular nurse will come on Tuesdays and she will fix lunch....above and beyond the call of duty, I'd say... So the 3 days I'll be working, at least he will get fed and have a little company. I leave here at 7:30 a.m. and don't get home until 6 or after, so that's a long day to be sitting by yourself and " thinking " . Seems like I'm forgetting something, but ............ having trouble focusing at work... hate leaving Glenn home alone... my mind is kind of like in a fog at times...surreal. Lots of hugs and prayers, Donelle Caregiver to Glenn
Guest guest
Donelle, Nothing like a nice meal when you get home!! Good for you. Sounds like you both are feeling a bit " up " for now. That's a good thing, and the fact that Glenn is enjoying some time and not sleeping all day.....great news! Thinking of you and sending prayers your way....love - donna Grandmommyandme@... wrote: Morning everyone!! Guest guest
I know I'm talking out of turn but please don't feel like Glenn needs to be held on a leash 24 hours a day. We all have a short time to live and we are all not very good at end of life activities. Glenn will probably need time to think about when he wants to do and how he wants to die. We all have to do it once so it's something we need to prepare for if possible. I feel so sorry for Glenn because of all his suffering. He is a true Coast Guard Hero.
