My parents took a fairly cavalier attitude to the clothing requirements (and there were lots of 'em) of my school which I felt absolutely mortified about at the time but saved them a *lot* of that sort of work. Luckily it became more cool to have non-conformist parents later on in the school james

Guest guest
> Hannah asks > PS. Do you have to sew names labels into socks? Our schools are just pleased with anything which will identify it ....afraid I use biro/permanent marking pen cos a lot of the clothes have space for 'Name... Class ..' on the label - so I can change the class every year. I am always amazed when we go to the lost property box - at how many school jumpers there are in there without any sort of ID! So far today, I have finished 2 bags of chips and a Chocolate cake. I feel better already.

All I did with the third pair was to pin up to the right length - press the bottom then trimmed the allowance to about 1.5 " and zig zagged it then hemstitched (by hand) it down. Seems to look okay - just can't be bothered to do the others at the moment - just praying he doesn't get anything indelible on his one pair before friday wash night! Ah - I think that's where I'm going wrong - not cutting off the extra in anticipation of letting them down at some point in the future - but realistically they'll be worn out before he outgrows them won't they? I'll trim them then they'll hem properly- thanks ) Oh and well done to Joe! It's not because she's a shortie, she's probably nearly 5'7 " , the skirts are made far too long originally and since the school does not enforce the length, the girls wear them as short as they possibly can! It's such a waste as the skirt cost £37 in the first place and not only am I removing almost half of it, I'm having to pay for the privelege!! By the way, my younger daughter's secondary school (different school from above) insists on everything being named, including PE socks; the girls have a kit check once a term and are fined if things are not named. At my boarding school we even had to sew name tapes on tights! Akiko

What's wrong with a laundrette which dyes everything greyish blue (from all the jeans I guess).
