or just ignore it. My parents took a fairly cavalier attitude to the clothing

requirements (and there were lots of 'em) of my school which I felt absolutely

mortified about at the time but saved them a *lot* of that sort of work.

Luckily it became more cool to have non-conformist parents later on in the

school

I would be having a nightmare if I had to do all that sewing. Our

school don't go back here until the 11th.........not that I am

counting or anything!

Our schools are just pleased with anything which will identify it

....afraid I use biro/permanent marking pen cos a lot of the clothes

have space for 'Name... Class ..' on the label - so I can change the

class every year.

I am always amazed when we go to the lost property box - at how many

school jumpers there are in there without any sort of ID!

I can do this but find it a PITA to do.. so my " solution " is to take it down to

my lovely dry cleaners and get her to do it ;o) (not much help I know lol) she

does a lovely job though and doesn't charge me a lot for it...

Same here! 2 pairs actually - joe being a shorty stumpy person

(like me!) All I did with the third pair was to pin up to the right

length - press the bottom then trimmed the allowance to about

1.5 " and zig zagged it then hemstitched (by hand) it down.

Seems to look okay - just can't be bothered to do the others at

the moment - just praying he doesn't get anything indelible on

his one pair before friday wash night!

Ah - I think that's where I'm going wrong - not cutting off the extra in

anticipation of letting them down at some point in the future - but

realistically they'll be worn out before he outgrows them won't they? I'll

trim them then they'll hem properly- thanks :o)

Oh and well done to Joe!

did that at Nursery and refused to leave school on his trial afternoons

without shaking the new teacher's hand - she looked most bemused!

Yes, I've just taken my 15 year old's school skirt to the dry

cleaners to have a massive 14 inches taken off. It's not because

she's a shortie, she's probably nearly 5'7 " , the skirts are made far

too long originally and since the school does not enforce the length,

the girls wear them as short as they possibly can! It's such a waste

as the skirt cost £37 in the first place and not only am I removing

almost half of it, I'm having to pay for the privelege!!

By the way, my younger daughter's secondary school (different school

from above) insists on everything being named, including PE socks;

the girls have a kit check once a term and are fined if things are

not named. At my boarding school we even had to sew name tapes on

tights!

Yes, I thought about that; I have asked for the material back and

will think about it when I see how much there is.

DH went to Cambridge uni. and had name labels on his socks, so they could be

sent to the collage laundry.

Collage laundry indeed! What's wrong with a laundrette which dyes everything

greyish blue (from all the jeans I guess).
