Guest guest
Beth While Durham isn't a big city, its outgrown small town too and, comparatively, Boone and the Blue Ridge Mountains are another world. You can get so lost in the environment and the beauty and the feeling is just so peaceful. > > Three days go by very quickly when you want them to last 3 weeks don't they? I had a great trip up to Boone in the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC. Spent some really good time with my son and his girlfriend . Got to find out what kind of a traveler my new dog is...turns out he's awesome. The only issue I had with the dog is his aversion to elavators. I was on the third floor of my hotel and it meant that every time we had to go up and down I had to carry him while pulling my oxygen tank. But we managed. > > Oddly enough for some reason I had a much easier time adjusting to the difference in altitude than I have in the past. The only thing I can attribute it to is the warmer weather. I think the cold weather and the altitude together is a bad combination for me. I was using 4 liters at rest and 6-7 with activity when I normally use 3 at rest and 4-6 with activity when I'm at home. But the adjustment this time was really rapid when it normally takes me 24 hours or more to acclimate to being at 3200 feet above sea level. > > We ate at a great new restaurant on Wednesday night for dinner and liked it so much Matt and I went back on Friday for lunch before I came home. Fabulous food! Did some walking enjoying the mountain vistas. So beautiful! Dropped of a few bags of groceries at Cove Creek Farm and met some of the 'knuckleheads' that are in the program there now. My son was one of the knuckleheads at one time and Cove Creek and it's director saved his life in more ways than one. It was good to visit there and count my blessings once again. > > So I'm home and scheming my next " get me the heck out of here " . Guest guest
Beth - Sounds like you really enjoyed yourself. Good for you! Mike and I will be taking off on Monday morning for a trip to burg, VA. Hope the heat is not too awful. What restaruant did you enjoy so much? We hope to get out to Boone sometime this summer, and it would be nice to know of a good place to eat. Guest guest
Barbara/Pink I went to burg in 1966 when I was considering going to and for college. Beautiful city but going to college on a campus that is a tourist destination would seem a bit strange. Standing in line everywhere a bit annoying if you lived there. Now, one other factor at that time. Non-resident (non-Virginia) freshmen couldn't technically live on campus so the college had purchased the old state mental hospital a short distance away and that was where freshman boys lived. I didn't go to and . > > > >From: Beth mbmurtha (AT) yahoo (DOT) com> > >Subject: Re: Good trip > >To: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. com > >Date: Saturday, June 20, 2009, 5:16 PM > > > > > >Barb, > >Tupelo's World Cafe.
