How to clean a slate floor

Ok how do you do it?

I knew it might be a problem when we got it - but not that it would

be THAT hard! We have got a rustic type, colorful thankfully, and the

surface is not at all smooth - it's got lots of nooks and crannies on

the top if that makes any sense.

I've tried hoovering, but with all the regular breakfast stuff,

dropped fruit and weetabix grinded in etc, it doesn't really work.

Mopping doesn't really work either, as everything just sticks to the

floor like glue and hides in all the grooves.

Finally we got a steam cleaner - which works if you spend ages doing

it and change white cloths about every 30 seconds.

Is there anyone else out there with a floor like this - and what do

you do!

I now realise why the previous generation thought lino was a Godsend!

Thanks

Karina

We also have a slate floor - unsmooth like yours and dark grey in

colour. We have never had a problem hoovering it; we have a cylinder

Bosch hoover with brushes in the head that you can drop down

specifically for slate, tiles, wood etc. It's very efficient - picks

up all crumbs, broken glass etc! We also use a special cleaning

fluid as our tiler from Fired Earth (where we got the slate) told us

never to use things like Flash. The cleaning fluid is called HG

Superfloor and is available from most specialist tile shops; I get

ours from Topps Tiles. The same manufacturer also makes a sealant

for slate which we have used once in 3 years. E-mail me off-list if

you want any more information and I will try and help!
