When I first had my children and only had 1 or 2 we all went to my parents

for xmas dinner along with my brothers and sister and went to my MIL for

boxing day. However as the extended family has got bigger there is no room

for all of us at once and also the children didn't want to leave their xmas

toys for a whole day we decided to stay at home for dinner. Somehow over the

years we have ended up with MIL and her mum for dinner every xmas (invited

once and kinda assumed this meant forever). On the odd occassion I mention

eating alone it is met with " fine I'll just do egg and chips for me and nan

as there's no point in cooking a turkey for 2... " so it is easier to give in.

Now we visit my parents on xmas eve as it is their wedding anniversary and

alternate my parents with my MIL on boxing day and then the reverse at new

year MIL on new years eve and my parents on new years day. Again as the

children get older it is difficult to get them all to agree to attend every

meal especially as I think it is rude to eat and leave.
