Rapid muscle wasting from OLE - is it a virus?

Hi,

I tried OLE starting a week ago on Friday, at 2500mg/day 6%

oleuropein, and after a few days noticed rapid muscle loss. At first

I thought it was the chelation round I started on Tuesday but after

checking the archives, I think its the OLE. I stopped both a couple

days ago. I've been feeling weak for the last few days, and I will be

trying to regain weight before I try anything else. In hindsight, I

was too aggressive with the OLE dose.

Does anyone know if this reaction to OLE is indicative of a viral

infection? On the first two days of OLE, I had more yeast (irritable,

constipated) but it disappeared after that.

I've only found two previous mentions of OLE causing muscle loss and

it happened in kids that already had trouble with muscle tone. I

think I'm in the same boat. I'm now taking 2g ALCAR/day (not sure if

its helping), and will try creatine to see if it helps with regaining

the muscle.

I don't have much experience with antivirals and not much luck.

Epicor caused me liver pain and inositol really spaces me out. Can't

afford virastop. I have a list of herbs (other than OLE) to try after

I feel better.

I came across a post from Andy saying that its possible that a viral

infection can affect the absorption of cysteine from food.

I wonder if its possible that a viral issue has interrupted my

absorption of nutrients. However I'm not sure if OLE is known to

rouse viruses in this way. I'm still feeling muscle soreness and

weakness despite not taking OLE for 2 days but it seems less than

before.

====>Jay, the yeast sure sounds viral. And I have read that OLE causes smooth

muscle relaxation (hope I'm saying this right) but that it has caused

constipation in a few kids, not many.

====>I can't click on this, but I think this is a conversation between Andy

and myself, something I read in a medical nutrition book of a physician that was

in my practice. He specialized in infectious disease and the book, if I remember

correctly did say that viral infections block the absorption of cysteine from

food.

Willis Langford's mammoth paper seems to be the source of the

recommendation not to use OLE for kids with poor smooth muscle tone,

based on papers that say OLE has hypotensive effects. I don't know

enough to judge if this could cause muscle wasting.

You have really good memory! Thats exactly what that old post was

about.
