Guest guest
Hi MamaSher,I thought I did reply about the walking - sometimes my connection with Yahoo fails for some unknown reason - seems to work well with other things. The walking from the parking to the appt is pretty far. Once you get to the appt. they can have O2 for you but you should call them and tell them when you are coming and to have it ready. I'd suggest you have your husband drop you off at the front of the medical center and if you can't walk far you can stop at the information desk and probably get a wheel chair. I am fine to do any activity at a reasonable speed - it's the quick off the mark running that gets me so I can walk that far and don't really think about it but my father had COPD and it would have been way too far for him to have gotten. The medical center is large and depending on all the different appointments you have you will be in various areas of the place and the cafeteria is also far from Dr. Raghu's office. There is an elevator or an escalator from the parking area which is under cover and you can get to the medical center with all of your walking under cover incase of rain. If this doesn't answer your questions - call me . Let me know your final plans - I would love to meet you depending on your appointment schedule for lunch or something. Peggy E. I'm sure you have already read that my appt in Seattle is in Oct. Later on we'll touch base and meet while we are there. I have a question.... Is there a lot of walking? I'm wondering how many cylinders I should bring. I have a little pack that holds two and I'm hoping that will be enough. I'm on 2L, and I turn it off when I'm sitting still. Thanks. Guest guest
Sher, I have a suggestion for you. Call and ask if they have wheelchair transport.. I did that at Shands. I used valet parking andthey met me with a chair. then they would come take me to the next test. doesn't cost anything and sure saves our energy forthe tests. Check it out. I am hoping they offer this. Also your 02 will probably last with no problem. I also ask for their 02 in each Dept. NO problem. Guest guest
Thanks Peggy...these tips are all worth considering for sure. Are you taking your own cannula to use "their" O2? If you are asking for 'their o2' what do they provide? MamaSher; 70, IPF 3-06, OR. NasturtiumsDon't fret about tomorrow, God is already there! Guest guest
Sher, If you need cannula they will provide it. For instance if you are using liquid or a conserver that uses dual cannula they will get you a cannula that will fit whatever they give you to use. Trust me you are not the first person with O2 to show up. I can pretty much guarantee they will accomodate almost anything you could possibly need. At Duke the waiting rooms in the pulmonary clinic areas are equipped with an outlet for the hospitals O2 at every chair in the room. I can come off my tank and hook up to their O2 for as long as I need to sit in the room. I don't know what you'll find but I am confident that they can accomodate you completely. Guest guest
Sher, I take my cannula off my tank and just plug into their tank or the 02 on the wall. They offer a tank in the lab or The Dr. suites. I usually have an extra one with me. Yes or always go with me. Just because they think I will run away.. lol.. It isn't necessary but they are sadistic and want to watch me blow that stupid machine and always have questions for my Dr. I hope all goes well for you. One thing-- when you are finished with the day you will be pooped just because of all the stuffyour not used to. Nothing hurts. It is very tiring. I am always glad they are there with me. we are an hour from my house to Shands. Love and Prayers, Peggy IPF 2004, FloridaWorry looks around, Sorry looks back, Faith looks up. Guest guest
Hi. I had my baby at UW and was seeing Dr Raghu. I would definatly recommend being dropped off at front and getting a wheelchair. There are usually wheelchairs just inside the doors. Valet parking is also available. That hospital reminds me of a mall. The way the layout is. And the coffee shops in there are GREAT also. Can you do me a favor and tell him that Miranda Gagne says Hi and I am almost on the list. I would be forever grateful. Tell him I was the one that had the baby last Sept. That should refresh his memory. I can tell you that everyone there was so helpful to me. The nurses are so nice. I stayed in the antipartum ward for 2 months prior to having my baby and when the lung team made their rounds they were always so nice. I wish circumstances were different and I could continue my treatment there with Dr R. Now I am going to USC. Well I hope everything goes good for you. And enjoy Seattle ! Guest guest
MB... it certainly sounds like whatever I need will be available. I think I will take a cannula, just in case, and the tank on the two wheel cart. That should do it. If we go from the car into a restaurant I don't need o2 for that short distance... It's so nice to have this info from you people! Thanks MamaSher; 70, IPF 3-06, OR. NasturtiumsDon't fret about tomorrow, God is already there! Guest guest
Peggy... we will be staying over night the day of testing. We're not far from home, about 3+ hours but it's nice to start out fresh. Besides, it gives us something to do to get away a bit. MamaSher; 70, IPF 3-06, OR. NasturtiumsDon't fret about tomorrow, God is already there! Guest guest
sher -- hospitals have provided me with both o2 and cannulas once i was waiting for my friend to have surgery, they hooked me up to the wall o2 with their cannula once at an appt, they hooked me up to a concentrator with their cannula when jerry was in ICU, they brought in a canister for me to use, just sitting there, i didn't need it at that time a couple of days ago, i threw out an accumalation of cannulas that were used one time the tubing is usually too short for use at home at Penn, there are lots of wheelchairs with o2 tanks attached i don't use wheelchairs, so i don't know how it works -- Pink Joyce R (IPF 3/06) IFA 5/09 Pennsylvania Donate Life Listed 1/09 Inactive 4/09 www.transplantfund.org--- Subject: Re: Re: Walking at Dr. Raghu's and UW for MamaSherTo: Breathe-Support Date: Friday, July 3, 2009, 4:53 PM Thanks Peggy...these tips are all worth considering for sure.
