Guest guest
Hi - This is Joan in California, responding to some of (I think) Barbara's questions. I've been told to be cautious using oils/salves/etc. in your nostrils as it can be inhaled and get into your lungs, causing you a lot of trouble. However, I've also been told that to use a prescribed/recommended medication is O.K. I use an herbal oil, just dip a Q-tip in a bit, press it agains the edge of the bottle to remove as much as possible, then swirl the Q-tip in both of my nostrils. This helps avoid the sores that I get from the cannula rubbing my 'tender' nostrils. I've also found 'SoftHose.com' who carry a marvelous cannula (haven't been able to get my supplier to buy them yet, so I purchase them myself, and consider them well worth the cost)...it is soft and doesn't leave marks on my face, irritate my nostrils, and is less likely to twist. You can order them in various lengths and also can get the longer tubes to be able to go to another room. QUESTION: I've started coughing up some little specks of blood with my morning gunk...have others had this? What does it mean? I'm going to do some research to see what I can find. Also, Monday AM, I'm to have a couple of angiograms (one of both sides of my heart; the other of both lungs) to try to see what is causing my 'rapid decline' (went from 2lpm pulsed to 5-6lpm continuous since April and am extremely tired...but what's new, nu?). Guest guest
Joan I highly recommend you call and let your Dr. know about the blood. Ya never know. My Dr. asks about that but I have never had that.Do you know you can trim the ends of the nose piece on your cannula and it helps so much. I agree about the softhose. well worth the expense.Take Care of you. Love and Prayers, Peggy IPF 2004, FloridaWorry looks around, Sorry looks back, Faith looks up. Guest guest
Joan Coughing up blood in our conditions (maybe anyone's) is to me a matter of immediate and urgent concern. I'd get to a doctor or ER quickly. It may be minor but if its not then waiting is too dangerous. Last person who we had on this board with that symptom waited too long. Please get medical attention now. There can be no finer outcome than to be told it's nothing and you overreacted. We just can't take chances. > > > Hi - > This is Joan in California, responding to some of (I think) Barbara's questions. > > I've been told to be cautious using oils/salves/etc. in your nostrils as it can be inhaled and get into your lungs, causing you a lot of trouble. Guest guest
Hi Joan,I'm new to the group--haven't even introduced myself yet. Thanks for the info for softhose.com. Concerning the blood you're coughing up, you should see a doctor immediately if you haven't already. Also, you might want to have some blood work done to make sure you aren't anemic. Last year my condition decreased dramatically and I attributed it to the progression of my IPF. Turns out I was very anemic and had a blood transfusion--it was like a miracle how good I felt immediately after. I had no idea that anemia can contribute to shortness of breath, weakness and fatigue. I'm hoping that you've gotten some answers since your post was dated in early July.Take care,Janie, 55, WI, diag IPF 10/04Subject: Some Answers to Questions...and some questions...To: Breathe-Support Date: Thursday, July 9, 2009, 9:34 PM Hi - This is Joan in California, responding to some of (I think) Barbara's questions. Guest guest
Hi Dyane,We live in northwestern WI in the Hayward area. Stone Lake is the name of our town. It's been a crazy summer here--one week it's sunny and 80 and the next, cloudy and 60. We haven't had a lot of rain so luckily, very few mosquitoes this year. How long have you lived in AZ?How did your angiograms go?Janie (55; IPF 10/04; WI)Every day and in every way, I'm getting better and better. > > From: Joan Masters <racheljm@.. .> > Subject: Some Answers to Questions... and some questions... . > To: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. com > Date: Thursday, July 9, 2009, 9:34 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi - > > This is Joan in California, responding to some of (I think) Barbara's questions. > > > > I've been told to be cautious using oils/salves/ etc. in your nostrils as it can be inhaled and get into your lungs, causing you a lot of trouble. Guest guest
Hi Janie, If you have any Simonis's around they may be relatives of mine. Been in Phoenix since 1980 with 5 years back in Oconomowoc from 1992-1997 then back to Phoenix. My ex was in the Air Force and we came here and loved it. I still love the heat, and the winters can not be beat. My angiogram went great, my heart doctor said the problem that showed up was from my stomach pressing on my lower heart because I was breathing so hard. No more treadmills for me! He actually said the good news was I would live a long time with my heart and the bad news was I would live a long time with my heart and those lungs HA HA It was kind of funny. I have a sister who rides her Harley up by you so when you see a blonde on a blue harley think of me LOL Dyane Phoenix IPF 02 > > > > > > From: Joan Masters <racheljm@ .> > > > Subject: Some Answers to Questions... and some questions... . > > > To: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. com > > > Date: Thursday, July 9, 2009, 9:34 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi - > > > > > > This is Joan in California, responding to some of (I think) Barbara's questions. > > > > > > > > > > > > I've been told to be cautious using oils/salves/ etc. in your nostrils as it can be inhaled and get into your lungs, causing you a lot of trouble..
