Guest guest
OMG!! I am so frustrated and anxious. We changed insurance carriers in the enrollment period June-July time period. I was assured by all of my physicians and medical equipment providers as well as National Jewish that they were all participators. Well, let me tell you this whole medical care business is really messed up. Did you know that if I OWN a concentrator that I can not get a tank and IFILL from any other provider because of " rules " that exist in the industry? It is kind of funny because I told the pulmo dude that I had a concentrator and if he could arrange it I would prefer the same medical equipment provider as they were contracted with the local PPO for my NEW insurance carrier. Something got lost in the translation and I have been on the phone for 3 days now trying to get a straight up answer. When you change insurance carriers, you have no health records (though Blue Cross/Blue Shield has no problems with 'pre-existing conditions'). How hard would it be for a company that does not care about pre-existing conditions to request medical records for the last 2-3 years so that they can see that I have been diagnosed with a condition that would warrant action today as opposed to a month or two from now! Sorry, I am very upset and have made my feelings known in several offices now. I can not believe that the doctors all want their own CT scans because they do not want to take the time to learn how to use the viewer (for digital data) on a CD of 2 CT scans done in the last 3 months!! Same goes for blood tests. I have had a CMP, A1c and Lipid profile done ever 6 months for the last 3 years but they can't spot a trend? Sorry... still venting. Is it any wonder there are such high costs associated with medical care? I have taken Bruce's advice and do not go to any doctor's office without my notebook of information and the CDs provided by Best Doctors, National Jewish and the local CT scans that have been done over the last 3 years. I have my typed up medication list, and even a self written patient history. The doctors seem to appreciate it, but some of the nursing staff get their pants in a bunch because I am out of the norm and don't fit into their neat little pigeon hole. I now have a prescription for oxygen. We will just see how long it takes to get it filled. It has been over 24 hours and it still has to be taken care of. I have checked with all involved parties, but we all know how slow things seem to go. Thanks for listening. Guest guest
Stefani, I feel your pain, I bet if everyone told there individual Horror Insurance Stories we could fill a book! I have become soo proactive in the last 5 years because otherwise nothing gets done. And getting a straight answer from the insurance company..Hah! I too have a hand written (ms word) health history and prescription data, I even put the prescriptions on 3x4 labels, list name, generic name, mgs and how often, so they can just peel and stick and I swear it freaks them out. I had one nurse insist I fill out their forms until I told her that her forms were not big enough for all my data. I take 25 prescription meds and 5 supplements, Ive had 7 surgeries in the last 5 years and I have three doctors keeping track of my top 3 diseases and they give me 2 lines on a preprinted form. Makes you want to shake them till their teeth rattle! Take a deep deep breath LOL and just keep smiling and insisting they do it right. Hang in there Dyane, Phoenix, IPF 02, Psoriasis, Lipodermatosclerosis, Breast Cancer, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia > > OMG!! I am so frustrated and anxious. The years when my son was a teenager and required things that my insurance balked at...the time right after my diagnosis when my insurance company (Aetna at the time) freaked at the sudden onslaught of claims. The hours and hours I spent on the phone...mostly on hold listening to what could only loosely be called "music". Take a deep breath and try not to comtemplate murder. We do all understand.
