Guest guest
Dianna I think it was excellent, they finally came right out and said how dangerous it was and it was kids who said it. I think it will certainly make some parents more aware of this dangerous game... Can't sugar coat something like that.Jolene WCCO-TV - Minnesota's Schools Warned About Choking Game I'd like to know what all of you think about this video from Minnesota, please comment, do you find it disturbing or do you think it shows too much? ~Dianna 's mom http://wcco.com/topstories/local_story_339185948.html please visit 's memory site: http://www.geocities.com/angelmomfriends4/jason1.html page 1 Welcome; page 2 Birthday; page 3 His last years and death --------------------------------- Yahoo! Guest guest
Dianna, I think the video is excellent for parents to watch but am very concerned that it is teaching kids that have never done it before on how to do it. Any child that gets bored may try it to see what it's all about. I know we have talked before about this and I still feel that we should talk to our kids of this but to tell them how to do it is not good. Guest guest
I'm not all that disturbed about all this stuff about the choking game. My brother and I did a similar thing in 1959. It was a lot safer the way we did it but the lack of safety is the attraction to these kids. The more dangerous the great kick from accomplishing it. Guest guest
Dianna I have read your story and viewed your website with tears in my eyes. You are a very strong woman and I admire what you are doing. Regarding this story - I commend the reporter for bringing this issue up - I do not think it is too graphic or revealing in any way - well, for PARENTS. I was previously not aware of this issue. A lot of problems today that could be caught or prevented (and some can't be because we are just not aware) are further complicated by parent denial. I have raised two teenagers already, and it was no picnice - despite how good a parent you are - things happen - teenagers traditionally do like to engage in high risk behavior - it is a teen trait. For example have you heard of " self-mutilation? " It is very popular - especially among white suburban teens, frequently females. They refer to themselves and each other as " cutters. " LIke with the choking game, the intent is not suicide.. but accidents happen. On the other hand regarding the news story, I have to in part agree with Ingrid. My husband and I always felt that when the children were receiving the DARE education in school - while awareness is good, and they are supposedly being taught the " why " that others do some of these things so they can avoid it - that they gave just TOO much information about drugs to the kids, who then might go out and try it! It is a tough controversy - but education and awareness is always a good thing - as long as parents get involved and talk to their kids about not doing this - same as birth control. I would not advocate witholding awareness of contraception with the idea that then they would not have " sex " or that it might encourage them. (Not trying to open a can of worms here.) Bottom line - the video is not too graphic and doesn't tell too much - too much would be if they saw one of their friends dead from this " game. " Thanks, Pat Dianna Brendle wrote: I'd like to know what all of you think about this video from Minnesota, please comment, do you find it disturbing or do you think it shows too much? ~Dianna 's mom http://wcco.com/topstories/local_story_339185948.html please visit 's memory site: http://www.geocities.com/angelmomfriends4/jason1.html page 1 Welcome; page 2 Birthday; page 3 His last years and death --------------------------------- Yahoo!
