Hi -

Wild yam is a raw material for progesterone, but it does not contain

progesterone. The process needed to make progesterone from wild yam is a

complicated one that is done in a lab -- the human body doesn't have the

ability to do it.

Wild yam does contain constituents that support the body, but taking it in

any form does not directly give the body progesterone supplementation. If it

made you feel better, there is probably something else in it that you

needed. It may support the body's ability to make its own progesterone, but

I'm not sure that process would happen so quickly.

Many of the early wild yam creams contained progesterone; others did not.

Nanci, thanks for sharing your recipe for making your own cream, but for those

of us who are too lazy to do this (me!), here is a link to the progesterone

cream that I am currently using, and it was recommended to me by ,

so I feel it should be a good one. The thing to look for is ones that have 20mg

of natural progesterone per pump, and this one does. It is NOW brand, and only

costs $11.02 per bottle, which I think is very reasonable.

Wow, thanks Nanci. I'm going to give the lotions I have on had a try

and if I decide to get on it and stay on it, I'll give this a go.

All I can say is that it did the very same thing for me as the

sttore bought cream.. I had been on the store bought for a

couple of months before switching. I had dramatic improvements

with the store bought with increase in temperature, I began

sweating for the first time in many years ,plus a dramatic

improvement in concentration.

Now I stayed on the wild yam cream I made from the herb

for many years,it kept me going and without it I was a

wreck. and the only thing to go away somewhat was the

concentration , which pregnelonone has helped/ I never had

any more problems with sweating , nor temperature. I can not

think of anything else I took that would help these symptoms.

And now when I put it on my skin I get more mentally alert..

Maybe the achohol is enough to take out the progesterone part

of it from the herb..??

Hi -

Wild yam has value even though we can't make progesterone from it. There

isn't really any progesterone in it - it's just a basic raw material that's

converted through a complex chemical process to progesterone. Alcohol won't

do it. I believe it might support our own hormone production though, and it

probably has other value. I'm not really up on exactly what wild yam does in

the body. Wild yam creams (without progesterone) have been popular for

years, so there must be some benefit other than directly supplying the body

with progesterone. The human body has the ability to make progesterone from

the raw material cholesterol (cholesterol --> pregnenolone -->

progesterone), but we do not have the metabolic ability to convert

diosgenin, the wild yam saponin used as a raw material for " synthetic " (lab

made) progesterone, into progesterone. Here's an interesting article on all

of this:
