Guest guest
I will be spending all day Wednesday at Emory for tests. If all goes well I will return for a heart cath and then begin the Artemus study. I will also meet my new Dr. At the hospital. I will be the first patient on the trial. As I told my nurse yesterday "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind". My only hope is that I have something positive to report to this group in a few months. Wish us luck!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Hi Joe, I hope to be starting the Artemus study also in about a week. The U of M (Miami) is doing the final evaluation of my condition to ensure that I qualify. I have a prelimenary OK but waiting on some final tests and peer reviews. Guest guest
Hi Dorothy, The Artemus study is to study the drug ambrisentan. It has been previously studied for a condition called Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). The consent form states that the study will test whether or not the course of your IPF disease will be improved with Ambrisentan. The study will be looking at whether it is safe and works in IPF. it is desdigned to last between 1 to 3 yrs. Apparently they have had good results in treating PAH with this drug. One of the first and last things they do in the study is to place a catheter into the right side of your heart to measure the blood pressure there. Then they test lung functions on a regular basis. We will have a 2 to 1 chance of getting the medicine. There are also two dosed being studied.5mg and 10 mg. If I'm finally Oked and start the study I'll give updates when or if things occur. I'll be looking forward to Joe's progress also. Good Luck, Joe. Terre, IPF 6/08 > > > > I will be spending all day Wednesday at Emory for tests. Guest guest
Ambrisentan is known in the US as Letairis and in Europe as Volibrus. It was approved in June 2007 as a treatment for Pulmonary Hypertension. It is a Type A Selective Endothelin Receptor Antagonist. The endpoint of the clinical trials was the change in 6 Minute walk from before to after. It's use is much like Tracleer and Revatio and also like both of them it is now in clinical trials for PF. The primary outcome measure of this trial is time to death with the secondary measure progression at 48 weeks, so it is a very long term trial. Those in the trial must have less than 5% honeycombing. The trial is sponsored by the pharmaceutical, Gilead and the chief investigator is Dr. Raghu. The biggest risk to date of ambrisentan is liver damage so the liver is monitored carefully both before and during the test. > > > > > > I will be spending all day Wednesday at Emory for tests.
