B & Q has some very cheap >hard wearing laminate wood flooring - but it's not water resistant, We've got laminate in our kitchen and bathroom. It's the water resistant sort but something has leaked around the shower and water has destroyed it from underneath. :-( TBH, it would only need a single piece to replace it but neither DH nor I are enough to attempt it! If you're going to have a rug over it, it doesn't matter too much does it? I understand laminate is fairly easy to lay - my brother did his own but he is good at that sort of thing. -- Sue
Guest guest
> Hannah > We have laminate wood flooring in our lounge/dinningroom and it regularly gets spill's that wipes up no problem (no not a waterproof one) I find it really easy and am so happy with it. In fact dh and I are talking about putting it in our bedroom.. We layed it ourselves (a glue one) and it was actually pretty easy but I would recommend not having kids around for the day as it is a time consuming job and you are not meant to tread on it once it is being layed.. > Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama Is it really that easy? The thought of having to saw things to make them fit is pretty scary - dh has a particularly bad history with saws... he's currently nursing a severely squashed toe from knocking out the old fireplace this week, causing a day off work. How long do you have to stay off it after laying? Guest guest
Hannah we where worried that it would be difficult so decided to lay it in our tiny little hall area first but it was so easy and just no trouble (dh is CRAP at diy he get's brownie points for NOT doing it) and the sawing is fine... didn't have a problem.. and you have to stay of it whilst laying it (I think because of it is likely to slip) but don't recall you having to stay off it for a long time after that (might be wrong this was 1.5 years ago) but it really was easy to do ;o) Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama & expecting a Christmas delivery... My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what you start. So far today, I have finished 2 bags of chips and a Chocolate cake. I feel better already. My DH laid ikea flooring in our kids play room. It took him a day or two, cost £150 max (much cheaper than carpet), and is guaranteed for 15 years. Its been down nearly a year, and is fine, no problems, and it gets alot of wear. There are slight minute gaps between some planks, but even a pro would have problems getting a relativelty cheap floor to be that perfect. It isnt waterproof, but if you spill a pint of water on it, as long as you soak it up as soon as you see it, its not a problem. They come with full instructions. My advice is, go for it, it looks better than vinyl, and if you take your time, will look great when you have done it. PS, make sure you borrow a mitre saw!
