Guest guest
Jolene I am so GLAD everything is OK at your END. That is great news - did you feel ok after the procedure? Good luck getting through the rest of Christmas rush week at your job. I saw surgeon yesterday - they are taking me in right away - to repair the pouch before I get any sicker. It is leaking - this apparently can cause so many problems and severe illness. Fortunately I haven't had any fevers....well unless I count all those hot flashes I am having. While they are in there - they will cut through the abdominal muscles and repair the large hernia that is protruding on the incision line. Sigh So guess where I'll be spending New Years' (I wonder if they allow champagne) Good news, (or is it?) is that they will not do another iliostomy so I won't have to go back to the bag. On the other hand - I can't imagine trying to heal from this surgery and using the plumbing without being diverted - I am guessing this is not going to be fun - I am sure I will be in a week - surgery is scheduled for Tuesday. Does ANYONE on here have any experience with this? J-Pouch leaking or problems... I have spasms and it just hasn't gone well. I don't even know what other questions to ask. There was no point in getting another opinion - since they have to open me up to repair the hernia anyway. Oh well, will do what needs done and thank my lucky stars it's not anything worse - no cancer cells etc. Pat Jolene Ehret wrote: Hi Ingrid All is well at my end. Guest guest
Jolene, glad you are ok with the scope. Pat, sorry you have to go back to surgery, but you must need this operation very much. Best of luck to you. God bless. ~Deb from KS MP Ford wrote: Jolene I am so GLAD everything is OK at your END. Guest guest
I had rectal cancer and was reconnected directly without an ileostomy. I wound up in the hospital 2 weeks later with a fever since I leaked a bit at the anastamosis site. It sealed itself up without surgery so they just fed me antibiotics until my fever left. They put you on a low residue diet (low fiber) at first until things get moving again. If I hadn't eaten whatever, I may not have gotten the leak. At the same time, I noticed in the surgery report that the surgeon had " nicked " the end of the colon before reattachment. He sewed it up and it held up when they tested it for leaks. That may have been the leak source too. Who knows? Each time I had the surgery, I was able to get out quickly. My first surgery only had a 5 day stay. The second had a 4 day stay because I learned what to do so I could get the hell out of there. I'd get up and walk as much as I could tolerate. I hate the hospital and I would do everything I could to get out. I have had hernias with both my surgeries. They never were bad to where I had a noticeable bubble pushing out but I could feel the hole (s). On my second surgery, the doc was supposed to stitch me up good so I wouldn't get the hernia back. I got it back, and worse than before. I had to get a mesh put in to keep my innerds in. That was a laproscopic procedure and only involved a 1-2 day hospital stay. I hope the stitching of the hernia works. I guess I scar a lot so it just didn't hold for me. I think they'll get the j-pouch straightened out to where it works ok. I kind of wish that I had a j- pouch so I wouldn't have to go so much. I'm rambling, so I'd better send this. Good luck and I hope you get out before New Year's Day! Miracles happen! Guest guest
Thanks Cliff Since I lost my rectum - the J-Pouch replaces it. It is not that fun cause it really doesn't know how to work. Docs told me can take up to a year for the constant going to the bathroom - urgency and whatnot to go away - on the other hand - maybe because it has been irratable with the leak I have those probs. :Yes the hernia is big. I wonder if they use the mesh standard? Or if I should ask about this. So the low residue diet worked OK for you? I am worried about that cause I know you have to go through certain paces before they let you go home! I did that last time to prove I could go and maybe went a little bit too soon! I'll have to look up some things that will be less irratible and ask for them - because the hospital kitchen staff do not know what the docs are talking about. Last time I got a big fat hamburger as my first meal on a soft G.I diet - I will go with a plan this time. Thanks for the info Pat offfdawall wrote: I had rectal cancer and was reconnected directly without an ileostomy.
