Guest guest
....then two little girls in this neighborhood would be walking around with two bodies and one head. I swear. Today was our HOA's semi-annual garage sale. I've been wanting to clean out the garage anyhow, so I decided to put start cleaning out boxes and putting stuff out for sale. I finally got around to a box of Jacqui's old toys and decided it was time for them to go. Cool, no problem, Jacqui didn't care. After a while the two little neighbor girls came over to look at the toys. They did not acknowledge Jacqui, as usual. One of them wanted to buy a game, so I sold it to them for a quarter and made a big deal to Jacqui that she made a sale. She was happy. Then the two little girls turned tail and ran back to one of the girls houses, inside, obviously to play the game. Ok. We're used to that by now. It disgusts us to no end, but we are used to it. THEN, they came back, and wanted to buy ANOTHER game. Well, ok...whatever. Unfortuantely this time, Jacqui thought they were talking to her when one of them said " Do you want to play this? " , and Jacqui pipes up very proudly and says " Yeah!!! We can play on the back of the truck. " They weren't talking to her. They were talking to eachother. They turned tail AGAIN and ran to the OTHER girl's house to play the game. I could have come out swinging...I'm still sick about this. Jacqui's face just dropped and she wanted me to take her over so she could play too. I couldn't do it. Her dad couldnt' do it. We tried to explain to her that some people are not worth being friends with. Makes me f***** sick. I just wanted to go over there and tell them what little pukes they are. Jacqui is upstairs now playing by herself, and for the life of me I can't tell if this kind of thing bothers her or not. damn it. Guest guest
<<<Penny>>> Those litle snots are not worth your daughters friendship. I know how badly it hurts, and I am so sorry. In someways I am thankful that for now Zachary seems oblivious to how others see him. Hopefully she does not notice, and her feeling were not hurt. Guest guest
I'm so sorry for Jacquie and you, Penny. I know that doesn't help.....They are little " pukes " as you say, and I am praying fervently that their karmas will bite them on the asses some day. Shit. Guest guest
Creeps. Ben was over here manipulating again today, too. I don't know about Jacqui, but bounces back the minute Ben is out of sight, and NEVER questions Ben's attitude to me at any time. I believe it truly does not weigh on him in the least. is a very in-the-moment person. He doesn't carry things from one scene of his life into the next. No matter how lousy Ben treats him one day, is nothing but glad to see him the next -- not because he's gullible, but because he truly does seem to let social slights roll right off him. Guest guest
I honestly don't even know how to respond to this. But it makes me so full of saddness and anger. Do they not know HOW to interract with her? Are they afraid? Alyx has problems with a girl across the street. They used to be best friends then out of the blue, she started saying really mean and hateful things to Alyx. Well seeing that these girls used to be friends, her mom and I talked but to no avail. The last time she was really mean to Alyx with no provocation I gave her a few not so nice words myself then made her appologize. She hasn't said a word to Alyx since. That's ok, if she can't be nice, don't say anything at all. The girls and boys in my daughter's class have a mainstreamed severely mentally handicapped boy in the class. We were at the concert the other night, and he made loud vocalizations and flapped and stood and bounced...and the girls waved at him and smiled! I was so proud of all of those kids. The parents didn't stare at him or say anything bad either. Of course, it's very obvious he's handicapped. > ...then two little girls in this neighborhood would be walking around with > two bodies and one head. Guest guest
((((((((Penny)))))))) Sorry but I just got this post. I'm having a real hard time the past couple of days getting posts. I'm replying to replies before I even get an original. Anyway - I'm so sorry to hear what happened with Jacqui and the neighborhood girls. Obviously those girls haven't been taught how you're supposed to treat people - ALL people. Geez.....talk about poor social skills??!!!! Sometimes I think our kids interact BETTER than some NT kids I've met. Please give Jacqui a hug and tell her I wish we lived closer so she could come and play with us anytime she wanted to! Love, prayers and heart hugs, Debbie (GA), Mom to Evan (4.5 y/o with ToF, RBBB, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asthma); (now a whole year old and HH and NT?); and my 3 angel babies whom I will finally see when God says it's time! 9:1-3 ============================================================ Date: 2003/04/26 Sat PM 05:04:10 EDT To: " Parenting Autism " <parenting_autism > Subject: If knocking heads were legal....(Jacquie V..you will appreciate)... ============================================================
Guest guest
Aw, that is so painful....what is the matter with children today? I am feeling hurt for you too....even as adults we don't like to feel left out. Miserable little shits.....Jacquie is far better than them. Walk tall and ignore them, if I thought my daughters were party to anything like that I would be crazed. A couple of weeks ago Liesel came in crying because she was scared, the neighbours kid screamed at her to go away SHE WAS IN HER OWN GARDEN and was watching them play ball. After that she refused to go out - until I drummed it into her that it was her garden and they were silly little boys....ACK! Guest guest
That's a great way to look at it Jacquie. I really should try that, because that is EXACTLY what I want for her. I want for her to NOT give a shit! Thanks! Penny Re: If knocking heads were legal....(Jacquie V..you will appreciate)... > I'd like to believe this too. It took her a milisecond longer to recover > this time that in the past, and I know it bothered me WAY more than it > bothered her. > > Still sucks though, ya know? Absolutely. Because WE know how WE'D feel if it happened to us, and the LAST thing we want for our kiddos is to feel that way. Brings out the Mama Bear. :-) To tell you the truth though, I think I often project my own fear of rejection on to him. I'm not saying YOU do that, but I think I do. Because when I step back and really look at him, he really doesn't seem to mind. Or, when he DOES mind, he recovers very quickly, more quickly than I ever did. When people treat him badly, or reject him, I definitely feel it as a blow to my gut. So what I try to do, and this sounds WEIRD, is to envy him for just not giving a shit. I mean, wouldn't that be WONDERFUL? Jacquie
