Guest guest
Hi, My son has verbal apraxia.. and has a 1 to 1 aide with him at school. She is a sign language interpreter and helps him to communicate. She stays with him all day and helps him with his tasks, helps him to stay on task, works with him on his speech and communication etc. My son did not recieve the full benefit of school until this year when he got the aide. Before he had his sign language interpreter aide he was communicating soley in sign and having a hard time completing any tasks in school. Now he is talking, and doing well in school.. making huge strides. If you are interested in an aide for your child.. talk to the teacher about it and see what she says. If she agrees it would be good for your child see if she can help you ask the school district for an aide. If so or if not, then start making your case to the district, see if they will at least try it on a trial basis. Good luck, Annie
