Dear Bishop & Pastor Lundwall,

It is my understanding that Bishop will be at Mt. Calvary on January 8

The church's and my own question to him and the synod is no different from

the one Phil put to you from his hospital bed WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN FOR 2 1/2

YEARS???!!!!!

I saw Bishop and for that matter you only at 2 times since arriving at

Mt. Calvary

both were administrative duties related to my husband's cancer and impending

death.

There WAS NO pastoral care from the Bishop or really yourself because it

seems to me all his cancer and now death mean to you is a a vacancy to be

filled.

This thought is not only mine, but it was Phil's, it is my 2 sons and a good

portion of my congregation's. Other pastors have asked and I have made

excuses for you both.

Thank God our Conference took the initiative the synod WOULD NOT provide and

have provided our immediate and parish family with the love and support we

needed.

Support is much much more than mailing in pension or disability forms and

obtaining interims, though that is of course necessary

It has always been Phil's and my belief that the office of Bishop is first

and foremost that of pastor to his/her pastors. When Phil was first diagnosed

he felt no hope from the person he needed it from most. One does not instill

hope in a frightened and dying 43 year old pastor by prefacing sentences

with: AND WHEN YOU DIE!!

This and a contingency plan put in place while the diagnosis was only A WEEK

old did not exactly endear us to the Synod, the Bishop or yourself. It sure

sounded like the gruesome undertaker waiting for his next customer!

I am frankly proud of the council at Mt. Calvary who had the willingness to

stand up and say

NO!!

The plan would have killed Phil and ultimately the congregation because it

sought to fill a pulpit rather than listen to God's call. They have supported

me in a way the synod would not with love and care and putting our needs

above their own convenience. A love that must have been EXACTLY what Jesus

meant

when He said You did it to the least of these little ones and therefore you

have done it for Me

Mt. Calvary has its problems but to its great credit it is putting God's

call above its own comfort. I have no doubt that God will bless such a ministry

and make it grow.

With Liese's help and a strong council I am hopeful for a future built on

the solid foundation of Jesus Christ.

Anything else is not worthy of Phil's memory or the congregation he loved

Sincerely,

Narice May

Now that is a powerful letter. That was certainly not a christian way to treat

anyone, least of all one of their ministers. They both should be shamed by your

letter, but I rather doubt it.

It is good to hear that you are strong enough to stand up and be heard though.

Take care of yourself.

Merry Christmas to you and your family

Narice, Those are very strong words that were needed to be said in

hopes to awaken this rude man, so hopefully he does not hurt someone

else in the way you and your family have been.

I have admired you through out this whole ordeal with Phill being

ill and his death. I now admire you more at your strength and

wisdom. May God give you comfort and help us all learn from you.

Love, Ingrid
