DyaneFirst as to high flow concentrators:Each major manufacturer makes a 10 lpm machine. Here is a page which shows three. http://www.tri-medinc.com/TM/concentrator_index.html#HIGHFLOWNow, beyond 10 lpm they use Y couplers to link two concentrators into one hose. Cannulas and hoses don't on the surface look much different but they are slightly. Here's a site with cannulas and humidifiers for 15 lpm. http://www.tinashomecare.com/oxygen_therapy_high_flow_cannulas.htmI'm using these sites not to suggest them but just an easy way to show multiple products. Now, examples of the masks are shown here: http://www.tri-medinc.com/TM/page2.html#19104 . There are both re-breathing and non re-breathing masks available as well as partial. As to liquid reservoirs for stationary purposes. Puritan has reservoirs that go up to 10 lpm and Caire has reservoirs that go up to 15 lpm. These can be Y connected just as I mentioned above on concentrators. Hoses, cannulas and masks are also the same as with the concentrators. As to Gaseous PortablesThere are regulators to go up to 15 lpm for cylinders as well. Here are a couple of examples shown:http://www.tinashomecare.com/oxygen_therapy_oxygen_regulators.htm?gclid=COLU2KTig5wCFQIfswodF3ce9gAt the highest flows the obvious problem becomes the amount of time it will provide. An E tank at 10 lpm will only provide approximately 1.1 hours. For this reason many at high flow will use a double cart and then strap a third E tank on it. Up to around 7 lpm you may still be able to use a conserver. A Chad Bonsai will provide you 9.8 hours from an E tank at 7 lpm. A chart on it is provided here:http://www.tri-medinc.com/TM/page26.html#20053There is also a device from Chad, the Chad oximyzer which is simply a variation on your cannula but saves some oxygen. You can get the equivalent of 7.5 lpm with your equipment set at 5 lpm and although they don't claim so, i've read 10 lpm when set at 8 lpm. http://www.chadtherapeutics.com/usa/Disposable-Conservers/Oxymizer.htmlAs to Liquid PortablesMade by Puritan , the Companion 1000T goes up to 15 lpm. At 10 lpm it will provide oxygen for about 1 3/4 hours. I have known people to carry three of these with them. The Caire Stroller also is available up to 15 lpm and would provide the same time essentially. OtherIn addition to Y Connections at very high flows in some situations one might use two different sources and a cannula and a mask. Also in certain areas of the country Transtracheal Systems are used more often than in other areas. For information, go to www.tto2.com. As they deliver the oxygen more directly they deliver it more efficiently. This allows one to use a lower oxygen flow and therefore extend the time with any form of oxygen. Then on top of that at extremely high flow one might get oxygen using their Transtrachael system plus use a cannula or mask. If you want mobility for travel at very high flows for liquid a reservoir in your vehicle becomes a good choice. For concentrator/gas, you might want to look into an inverter for your vehicle. This would allow you to use a high flow concentrator in your car so that you only had to use the portable when away from your car or your home/hotel/room. SummaryBasically equipment is available and ways of connecting for very high flows. The issues you face are twofold. First, your provider. They may not stock much of it and they may not be use to high flow users so may not be knowledgeable. The second is that for portable use at the highest flows range and time become a problem. >> Hi guys, Bruce I'm guessing you may know where to go since you are such a wonderful researcher. I have been looking for good info high lpm oxygen therapy, machines, masks, etc. I am obviously not using the right search words because frankly I want info not just a picture of what machine I can buy! More and more I'm deciding I'm not happy with my supplier but want more info before calling others. Any advice wore really appreciated. I realize I'm edging up to the OMG range but I just want to keep keeping on the way I do. Thanks.> > Dyane Phoenix IPF 02> > ps 110 so far today wish I was with Beth:)>

By now just know a lot of it and where to look for the rest. I do try to

keep up with the oxygen equipment as one who uses it. I also wait and

hope for continued improvements. The biggest recent improvements is many

more Portable Oxygen Concentrators entering the market (which ultimately

may lower the price) and reduction in weight of some of the Home

Concentrators.

Thanks Bruce for that information. I have been looking for this infor, for awhile. However, one problem may be with insurance. My insurance would only pay for 1 liquid portable, and considered the gassous oxygen as another type or oxygen, and wouldn't cover it for backup. I could have the extra portables if I wanted to pay for it. Marcia

Talk to the manager at your oxygen provider. Something should be

possible for more to accomodate your needs. Your insurance can't

arbitrarily limit you to anything that won't meet your minimum needs.

Often the providers just include at the same price. Otherwise a second

liquid portable should only be around $35 per month.

Bruce,I wish that was true, my insurance will only pay for $5000 in 'durable medical equipment' a year, after that its my dime. Later in the policy under other covered expenses it does list Oxygen and devices to deliver said oxygen but I can't get anyone at HUMANA to admit that that seems to mean o2 is different. A**H****s. Because they purchased my mobility chair in 2009 they said I was over the limit, but they have continued to pay the supplier so I won't scream till they stop. To me the biggest problem with insurance company's is their lack of logic. To me it only makes sense to help someone stop smoking so that you don't have to pay the $1000's of dollars of care for the lung cancer later. Or to help someone lose weight, however that is done, rather than pay years of diabetes medicines and problems from the diabetes. Apparently I am crazy though because they just don't see it my way. So I say bring them on, even though I pay over $6000 a year HUMANA pays much much more in avoidable costs. And because I will no longer lay down and let them run over me, they will pay!Dyane IPF 02> >> > Thanks Bruce for that information. I have been looking for this> infor, for awhile. The option of renting a second one for the remainder of this year still

should be possible and if the local company doesn't fall in line with a

rate, some will even ship units in. Also, obviously these things cost,

but one might always consider purchasing used or reconditioned equipment

or even on Ebay. I have seen Helios Marathons in like new condition on

Ebay for as little as $300. I've also found oxygen equipment and chairs

on Craigslist. I purchased my powerchair there, a $5000 upgraded unit

with 380 hours of use for $500.

It's unfortunate we have to go through all this sometimes but we keep

searching for what we can find.

Examples: Right now Companion 1000 Liquid Oxygen (step above Marathon)

on Ebay for $150 (buy it now $200).

advantagemedicalsystems.com in Kansas City is a large refurbisher.

Dotmed. com is a good source to find suppliers.

There aren't good solutions for everyone but sometimes we can find a

provider who helps us or luck into a deal.

One thing I did omit is that unfortunately the higher the flow the more

difficult to find what we want and need and the more costly. I did

negotiate with my provider before giving them my business and have an

excellent situation today. But I have no guarantees they will always

honor our agreement or its spirit.
