Guest guest
C/Beverley If you do that, then call and ask how many PF patients they have. However, my recommendation remains the same and that is an IPF Center of Excellence or other Teaching Hospital with ILD department. Then they might have knowledge of a more local pulmonologist to do maintenance doctoring for you. > > Beverley, > Check out the American Lung Association physician referral list for the state of Washington and Idaho. Guest guest
I plan on calling the IPF center tomorrow but it will take months to get an appointment and the center is too far away for me to use their doctor full time. I'm going to go see my PC doctor and see what she has to say but they always go with the doctors in their system and that will be the same Spokane doctors. Guest guest
Beverley All Doctors in Idaho train somewhere. Some doctors in Idaho train at UWMC. It may be hard information to find but its out there somewhere. Other than that just ask locals about their expertise with PF. Be . Guest guest
Interview potential doctors..... You may have to do this through their staff. But ask the specific questions as to patients treated with PF. Connections with medical schools. How easy to get a quick appointment when needed. We interview a housekeeper or a realtor or most everyone we decide to use a service from but we hesitate with doctors. Also, check their background online. Find out what school, when, where they did residency. I wish there was more information available like there is for PH. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Beverley, > > > > > > > Check out the American Lung Association physician referral list for > > > > > > the state of Washington and Idaho. Guest guest
www.vitals.com Beverlay Joy, I used the above site to find pulmonologists in my area. It seems to work OK for here, but as far as the ratings go, most of the listings didn't have more than 1 or 2 ratings, not enough to really determine quality of service. The site will tell you where they went to medical school. You can filter your search according to years of practice, proximity to you you, hospital rating where they practice, and rating of medical school they attended. This won't take the place of calling and finding out, as Bruce mentioned, but you'll be able to place pulmonologists on a map and get contact information. Guest guest
Several pulmonologists were listed in Idaho, but I forgot to tell you that the search engine in www.vitals.com searches within no more than 30 miles from you. You may need to enter nearby zip codes and search from there. If you send me your zip, you won't have to tie up your phone line. Guest guest
Thanks once again to Bruce who pointed us to sources for finding other doctors in our area (or as close as possible) that specialize in PF.Here's a couple links for anyone with similar issues and one method available to track down alternate specialists... IPF Center of Excellence IPFnet is a network of research centers dedicated to the study of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The network's goal is to find effective therapies for patients with both the early and advanced stages of this devastating disease. https://www.ipfnet.org/Click on the link nearest you for names, phones, addresses, and how to contact.I also tried the American Lung Association suggested previously but could not find a link for local affiliates.Best,CuylerFrom: "Breathe-Support " <Breathe-Support >To: Breathe-Support Sent: Sunday, August 2, 2009 12:16:14 PMThSubject: Digest Number 5047[1 Attachment] Pulmonary Fibrosis On-line Support Pulmonary Fibrosis On-line Support Re: No doctor Posted by: "Bruce Moreland" brucemoreland@... brucemoreland Sat Aug 1, 2009 9:44 pm (PDT) C/Beverley If you do that, then call and ask how many PF patients they have. Guest guest
Beverley Joy, I will check near both the places near you tonight and see if there are any pulmonologists with promising credentials. And as you say, you are far away from the really specialized research centers. If ever I find myself unable to go to New Orleans (6 hours away), I'll consider something along the lines of what Jane suggested and find a pulminologist closer for regular visits. I would want to keep in touch with Tulane no matter what. I'll get back with you later, possibly as late as tomorrow afternoon.Who believes that hard times help us appreciate the good times even more. Guest guest
Beverley Joy, I have one doctor, Dr. P York, who looks promising so far. He was educated at University Of Texas Southwestern Medical School At Dallas, which is ranked 20th of 144 in the US. His specialty is Internal Medicine with sub-specialty of Pulmonary Diseases. He also specializes in Anesthesiology with sub-specialty in Critical Care and Anesthesiology. There is a negative: The Kootenai Medical Center, with which he is affiliated, does not appear to be rated highly in the area of cardiology. And as we know, IPF and heart disease can go hand in hand. Since you are not close to a major university hospital specializing in pulmonology research, you may want to give Dr. York's office a call. So do you live in northern Idaho? I will look for more possibilities, but other pulmonologists in that area went to medical schools with inferior ratings. None of them attended a major school researching lung diseases. Guest guest
Jerry,There are doctors in Spokane that studied at the University of Washington. Thay has a very high rating. There is also one at Deer Park that would be closer. I live about 50 miles north of Spokane Wa. I am on the Washington-Idaho border. I had two older sister who lived in CDA. They both died at the Kootnei County hospital. They always went there and they both liked it. Another sister was taken there when called 911. They diagnosed her with the terminal illness that finally took her life. If she hadn't been sent there by mistake she would never have known what was wrong with her. So, I don't have anything against that hospital. However, it is easier for me to get a ride into Spokane. My PC doctor is also in Washington and in an emergency she sends me to a Spokane hospital. Thank you for searching. If you wouldn't mind I'd like you to check those doctors out of Spokane. I looked but I didn't really know what to look for. Thank you for going to this trouble for me.Beverley Joy,71, UIP,NSIP 1-09,Diabetes,Sjogren's,Fibromyalgia Idaho From: Bruce Moreland <brucemoreland@ gmail.com>Subject: Re: no doctorTo: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. comDate: Sunday, August 2, 2009, 6:56 PM Interview potential doctors.....You may have to do this through their staff. Guest guest
I will look in Spokane and see if we can find a pulmonologist with a degree from a really good pulmonology center. Maybe we'll get really lucky. I am glad to hear good reports from Kootnei County Hospital. We'll see what we come up with. Guest guest
In the Spokane area, Dr. Puruckherr stands out as being a possible pulmonologist for you. He is head of the critical care unit of the Holy Famiily Hospital, which is rated very highly. He is the author of 7 published articles in the area of pulmonology. His ratings by 4 patients is a perfect score. The one uncertainty would be education. He was educated at University in Marburg, Germany, which as far as I can tell, has no ratings to go on here. If you decide to call the contact number, do ask about PF patients. Two of his articles included material concerning PF, while the other 5 were unrelated. We'll check for more possible pulmonologists for you, and hopefully we'll find one that stands out even more.
