Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I have some observations on my first round using ALA. Before trying ALA I was feeling extremely good - almost completely well. I would have minor symptoms only after very vigorous exercise (biking 30 miles, for example). I was up to 25mg DMSA after 20 rounds. Until round 20 I had side effects after every round, which I would rate as a 3 or 4 out of 10 in terms of severity. After reaching 25 mg, I had no side effects (0 out of ten) following rounds 20-22. At round 23 I took 25mg of DMSA every 3 hours together with 3mg of ALA for the first 36 hours of the round. I immediately felt pretty crummy, particularly in terms of my digestion - side effects 6 out of 10. Many of my mercury symptoms returned. To my surprise this continued for quite some time after the round was over. It has been about 45 days since this round, and I am still not back to where I was before. I took a 14 day break from chelation hoping that would get me back to well, but instead I got a little worse every day without chelation. I also did three more rounds with DMSA 25mg. Interestingly, each of these rounds had significant side effects afterwards, including some of the worst side effects since I have been chelating. The severity of after round effects diminished a little bit after each successive DMSA round. I suspected that this was because the ALA had increased mercury mobilization over a longer period that I expected. I suspect that in addition to short-term effects, small amounts of ALA may have the potential to set longer-term mobilizations and redistributions into motion. Either that or tiny amounts mobilize a lot of mercury all at once, so much that many rounds of DMSA are required to mop it all up. In someone who was already sick when they started using ALA, it might be difficult to distinguish the resulting side effects from other causes. If someone was using ALA every round, the longer-term cumulative effects might hard to recognize. I am about well enough to try another round with ALA, but I wonder whether this chelator has very different pharmokinetics from DMSA, and shouldn't be used with more caution and longer break periods between rounds. I hear a lot of stories of people using ALA every round who feel pretty sick and wonder if it needs to be that bad. Good luck, Dave
