Today I had my bronchoscopy. at Southampton General hospital.

The bronchoscopy tube was put up me nose and down the bronchi

into lungs. They squirted saline down and sucked it back up. They used a little

'brush' attachment which took surface cells.

'Brushings' then they went right down to Right lung lower lobe and did the

'snip' biopsy.

The man said as I have a lot of 'spaces' that the likelihood on pneumothorax was

increased to 20 %. While I was fine on the trolley afterwards going to x -ray

and the x ray was clear. It was when they told me I could go and I sort of

rushed a bit getting dressed that I suddenly felt a stabbing pain in my right

back sort of north of kidney region. Fair dinkum took all me breathe away.

Dr came to listen and said he thought I had a small amount of air around that

point but as I was still able to breathe he said go home, rest, take pain

killers and come back to casualty for chest drain if it got worse and prevented

me breathing

I didn't find it too pleasant but it was similar to the gastroscopy I had a few

weeks ago. If a little less because they didn't pump me full of air like they

did my poor tummy.

I had a nose hose but they put it into my mouth as he worked through my nose.

When I came out my sats were low so went on 6 oxygen with full mask..

wow that made me feel so much better than I have done of late. think I was in

need of the O2.

Sats with the O2 were 85-90%

I didn't catch sight of monitor before that

The ILD nurse is arranging a full meeting of all concerned with my tests etc in

2-3 weeks. They seem to be pushing things along a bit now for me. Whether its

because I am part of their trial? or I am ex member of Hospital staff? but feel

that they are taking things a bit more seriously now.

Love to everyone

Thanks to everyonewho has sent me best wishes.....very much appreciated as I was

scared ....less for this one.

The plumber seemed to cope without us being here.....he said he was thinking of

me...aw sweet eh? Got back not much seems to have been done but he's power

'flushed' the system through.

Night night! Big hugs X
