He said it could be that I strained the ligament. When the pain hadn't gone 2 weeks later, I saw my primary again. He sent me to an orthopedist. He said there's this thing called Aseptic necrosis. It's when the bone stops getting blood and basically dies. It's common in women in their 50's that have been on Prednisone in large amounts or for a long time. It happens in hips, knees and shoulders. Now, they're sending my for an MRI to decide how to treat this. I knew I hated prednisone. Now, I have a new reason. Has anyone else had this problem after being on Prednisone? Nan 49, MA list started '82 PF '08 Asthma, Aseptic necrosis '
Guest guest
, I'm sorry you are going through this. Aseptic necrosis is fairly rare but it is one of the more serious complications of long term steroid therapy. It's a very powerful drug and has lots of effects on the body some of them decidedly unwanted. I had to look aseptic necrosis up as it's been years since I learned about it in school. Please let us know what the results of your MRI are. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Guest guest
One of the members (Liz) from my AOSD Support Board raised the same question this week on that site as she has come down with it adn is being treated. Of course, AOSD folks are frequent users of corticosteroids. Aseptic necrosis is also known as Avascular necrosis. One of several synonyms. I find it interesting that similar issues/questions appear at both sites around the same time.
