Guest guest
Hi Salli. I just wanted to thank you for your reply to my post about crying at old movies and such. I really am an old softie. But all of the stuff you said made so much sense and I couldn't agree with you more. While I do feel that our past experiences play a part in who we are now - there comes a time when we have to pick up all the pieces, fit them together in the best way that we can, and move on. There are times when we don't have control over something that is happening. I was raped as a teenager and went through quite a bit of psychological abuse as a child and, as I said, had an abusive first marriage. But I have dealt with and am dealing with that. I will not let those people control me anymore - that was my decision a long time ago. But I also think it has helped me be sensitive and understanding to others in those situations. As much as we'd like to think so, it's not always easy to just walk away. When you said that you don't think Lou damaged your self-esteem at all, I couldn't help but applaud you. I think that's awesome. It's real easy to start believing bad things about yourself when you hear them so often and for such a long period of time.....or even when no words are used but attitudes and body language speak volumes. Anyway - I guess I could go on forever about this but I just wanted to give you a big {{{{{{{{hug}}}}}}}} and thank you for sharing such personal insight and thoughts with us!! Love, prayers and heart hugs, Debbie (GA), Mom to Evan (4.5 y/o with ToF, RBBB, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asthma); (now a whole year old and HH and NT?); and my 3 angel babies whom I will finally see when God says it's time! 9:1-
Guest guest
Hi again, Salli. You know, it's really funny but I don't think of it that way (meaning I had more to overcome than others)...only because we are all given our " crosses to bear " and I just think it's all in how you look at it, if that makes any sense. What I meant, I guess, was that you have such a positive attitude about the whole thing. Even when you post frustrations about Lou or the irritating things he does, I see such strength in your posts and I just think it's very encouraging for others. Have I confused you yet?? LOL. I was an EMT for 8 years when I lived in New York and I used to get so frustrated at the attitudes of some of the other folks who volunteered with me on the local rescue squad. They would make comments about some of our patients using the ambulance service as a taxi. Well, ok, maybe some of our calls were not real emergencies. But if you put yourself in the shoes of the patient, you would realize that they called us to help them because they were in a situation they couldn't handle without some assistance. Isn't that what we were there for? Where was I going with that? Oh - that was another example of how you look at it and I think that's what I was also saying about you. You have been such a great source of support and encouragement for me since I've joined this list.....even when I post about " little things " that aren't really as bad as they seem at first. Everyone here is so non-judgmental and supportive and I just keep thinking how fortunate I am to have found a group of folks who really understands what each other goes through, yet also understands our desperate need for humor and a some OT posts to help us through the rough spots. {{{{{{{{{{{{GROUP HUG}}}}}}}}}}}} Debbie E ============================================================ Date: 2003/04/16 Wed PM 03:02:05 EDT To: <parenting_autism > Subject: Re: Salli ============================================================
