Guest guest
Hello parenting_autism , In reference to your comment: " I struggle a great deal with religion. I was raised strict Christian. I have huge issues beyond what I could ever go into in here. BUT I do believe in good and evil and I was always raised to believe that any sort of witchcraft, occult, wiccan was evil, and I would not be pleased to see her explore that route. I want my daughter to find her own path with the Lord. I let her go to many different churches ( I can't go, I have panic attack every time). I try to teach her the basic fundamentals of good and moral behavior. Of course, all of my morality is based on what Christianity teaches, and I would not mind if she explored other religions. I feel very strongly that for me, God knows what my issues are, and that He understands me. I try to live honestly and to be a good person but I can't convey that to her so easily. " OK, being a Witch myself, I'd like to throw in my own 2 cents, for what it's worth (hopefully 2 cents)... I know Christians are always taught that witches are evil, but the fear is unfounded. Christians were MADE to believe that when Christianity was born, to get them all to " convert " simply out of fear. Any pagans/witches that were left went underground in fear of their lives and freedom. A very few who stayed decided to put their own twist into the Christian religion, incorperating the Great Mother into their prayers, and Catholisism was born. Wicca, on the other hand, is a fairly new religion. Wiccans are REQUIRED to do no harm, it is, in fact in the Wiccan Rede. But that's not just Wicca, any religion, yes even witchcraft, implores you to love your fellow man (or woman). If you actually sit down with every religion, you'd find that they're all more or less the same as far as morals go (not YOU in particular You as in generally). Religions aren't evil. People are evil, regardless of religion. They have their own free will, and THEY choose to do the things they do, not their religions. There's a great website that explains Witchcraft and it's followers: www.witchvox.com. Check it out, if you'd like. And, just for the record, Witches are NOT Satanic. Witches don't even believe Satan exists. Your typical " Satanist " is nothing but a rebellious Christian and a troublemaker (Troublemaker part is IMHO). , please don't take this the wrong way. I'm not in any way trying to tell you to allow your daughter to become a witch. I totally understand what you're saying and how you feel about it, and the last thing she needs is to appear any more " not normal " as the little snot put it. I'm really just trying to clear the air, and to do what I can to put an age-old (and horribly mis-leading) myth to bed. ::Grins and steps down from Soap Box:: ~Blessed Be, Aradia, Wife to Gregg, Mom to Brittney the Destructor, 5, PDD, Witch, and writer of all trades~
Guest guest
Ok, here goes ... I am also a practicing witch <steps out of broom closet> currently in wiccan seminary (yes there are such things). I was raised Catholic and I still attend mass occassionally. In my mind, the two beliefs are not incompatible. Most wiccans believe that all gods/goddesses and all faiths are all valid expressions of the same diety and truth. Many wiccan rituals and beliefs have been coopted into the Catholic tradition and the paths are more closely linked than many would suspect. Aradia's previous post on this subject has done a fabulous job representing what wiccans/pagans are and what they believe. For more information, especially Q and A on wiccan vs Christian beliefs, check out my coven's website: http://www.ravenwoodchurch.org/beliefs.htm Sadly there are those who will be drawn to the wiccan/pagan path for less desirous reasons (fashion, rebellion, misconceptions, etc) but please know that these individuals do not represent wiccan/pagan spirituality. I will not take up any more list time for this, but please feel free to contact me off list for further information/discussion. Guest guest
Aradia, Very well said. I was thinking much along the same lines, but since I'm not a witch and don't practice wiccan, I didn't want to send info that was misleading. There are several on my homeschooling list, and I have to say that all of them are the sweetest, kindest women. I thought there were people here on this list who could give out correct information. :-) ellen Re: Dance/Witchcraft Hello parenting_autism , In reference to your comment: " I struggle a great deal with religion. Guest guest
Hmm, another one waves from the closet...well, I am sort of a mix of christian..wiccan tradition..native american tradition..with a splash of taoist thrown in for good measure.....while not a typical path, it suits me. I pretty much explore something and if parts " ring a bell " with me they become a part of me... a really ecletic sort of thing I guess..don't believe in an all great sourse of evil..evil to me is a person or thing that sets out to cause intential harm and/or devastation to others(aka..the holocost, salem witch trials, could go on and one, but you get the point)..no harm in me, it goes against everything i believe and was taught..now that i have made little sense i will let it sit..Aradia said it well!! Guest guest
Sorry, this is the link I meant to post for more info on wiccan/Christian issues http://www.unicorntrad.org/faq.htm (from another prominent coven in my area) Re: Dance/Witchcraft > > > Ok, here goes ...
