Guest guest
Can anyone offer any advice? A 31 wk pg friend was asking if I had had B-H contractions and what did they feel like. I said that I was the last in my AN class to get anything that I could remotely class as BH contractions - occasional hardening of the bump was the nearest I could think of. She said that she had had dull aches, very much like period pains, and in fact generally felt premenstrual, for the last couple of days and she didn't know whether to be concerned or not. Her moan was " The books don't tell you what brxton hicks FEEL like! " and she wasn't sure whether to be worried about the dull ache from her bump - she was thinking of phoning her GP anyway. Anyone shed any light? Anneliese and Toddler Terrible Two Today Tim

Your description sounds accurate as they are exactly what I get/am getting. It is a slight hardening feeling but the dull period pain is another symptom. I remember worrying about them second time around (not having had them first time around) until I really went into labour and thought 'Why on earth did I think the BH were painful???' If the baby stops moving or she is at all worried then of course she should get it checked out. Caroline 24 weeks
Guest guest
Anneliese Sounds just like the BH I had with Phoebe.. (I had the nice non painful ones with Eloisa lol).. The best friends guide to pregnancy (VIcki Iovine) mentions the fact that BH can be painful so perhaps your friend should try to read that.. She should still mention it to midwife/gp though Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama & expecting a Christmas delivery... My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what you start. So far today, I have finished 2 bags of chips and a Chocolate cake. I feel better already. Guest guest
I had the tightening ones with DD all the way through even up to the end, they didn't really change in feeling much. They felt tighter towards the end but not painful. I rather liked the body doing its exercises in preparation for this first babe. However with DS I had painful tightenings for a month before his birth - almost like period pains, certainly sometimes noticeably painful - but the midwives insisted it was pre-labour (not labour) - and in fact we had six false alarms before proper labour gradually got going. (which was tough on my doula friend as she lived about an hour away from us!) Probably something to do with him ending up as POP and being a star gazy babe when finally entering the world...it was quite unsettling. I got mine checked by the midwives (as I was on a midwife team pre home-birth, rather than seeing doctor by that stage) every week. They were not ominous as things turned out, but I'd had bleeding scares earlier in the pregnancy and wasn't taking any chances.
